Gouache on paper on board, 17 1/2" by 12 1/2" and 1 1/2" frame/mat, signed at lower right "MIZEN". This work has the feel of illustration art, and well it should as FREDERIC KIMBALL MIZEN (1888-1964) was a noted illustration artist, having done covers for the Saturday Evening Post. This work is somewhat primitive but the artist has created an interesting painting. There is a listed artist Frederick Emmanuel Shane (1906-1992), a Missouri regionalist who also painted in Colorado; conceivably this could be an early work of that artist, for some reason signed "F M Shane"...

Charming small round painting in the original gold wood frame, 9 1/2" diameter as framed, the subject given on the reverse of the board in the artist's own handwriting: "Heilige Nacht in Villingen" ("Holy Night in Villingen"), also, "N. gem. v. Albert Sager" ("painted/executed by Albert Sager") signed there including the artist's most unusual monogram which includes the date of execution, 1922. That monogram is also incised carefully in the wet paint on the front side at right...
