An interesting color printed engraving of George Washington published in London in 1798 by Robert Cribb, Holborn, engraved by William Nutter after a painting by Gilbert Stuart purported to belong to J.S. DeFranca of Devonshire Place. Devonshire Place is a part of London, but a quick search did not turn up a J.S. DeFranca and it is possible that this print is a copy of another print of Washington, based on the Lansdowne portrait by Gilbert Stuart...

An accomplished, very western American pastel drawing on paper of a frontiersman, (11" by 9", and 15 1/4" by 13 3/4" as simply framed), signed at lower right "Lea" and with copyright symbol. I sent images to the Tom Lea (1907-2001) Institute in El Paso, Texas, thinking this may be by that well-known artist but they responded that it is not. Therefore, it is offered as simply a nice drawing with a lot of western appeal. Likely date of execution circa 1970's or 1980's.

From 1916 to 1918 he attended the Connecticut League of Art Students, founded by Charles Noel Flagg, Connecticut's official portrait painter.[1] He attended the Hartford Art School from 1919 to 1921, alongside his fellow student and lifelong friend, Milton Avery.[2] He studied on scholarship at the Museum Art School of Boston from 1921 to 1924, then traveled through Europe for two years (1924–25)...

An old oil on canvas laid on board painting of the northern San Francisco waterfront around Fort Mason, along with a panoramic view to Angel Island and Marin County beyond, unframed, 11" by 14", signed at lower right "Whited". There is only one listed artist with the last name, an (Elva) Viola Whited of Texas, which internet search reveals likely birth/death dates of 1902-1983. This could be our artist or could be someone totally unrelated...

Dimensions; 17" x 11"; framed, 23" x 17". Excellent condition. Exhibited at the Stirling Fine Art Exhibition, and at the Smith Institute in Stirling, Scotland.

From the set of lithographs, Paris dans sa Splenour, published in 1861, this one is titled, “TOUR St. JAQUES – LA BOUCHERIE ET RUE DE RIVOLIE.” The printer and lithographer are shown in details of the lower left and right corners. The image without printing is 9 1/4 by 14 1/8 inches (23.5 x 36 cm), the page 12 ¾ by 18 ½ inches (32.5 x 47 cm).

Condition: some staining, roughness around the margins and some rubbing of the surface...

This painting measures 18"x36". Helen LaFrance is a self-taught, modern, contemporary artist who is 99 years of age. Her earliest known painting is a 12’x20’ mural inside of a local church that was made circa the late 40's and early 50’s and she continued to paint into the early 2000's. LaFrance’s work is represented in many notable public and private collections in this country and in Europe...

Meierhans, b. - 1890 in Switzerland, emigrated to the United States in 1917, eventually settling in Bucks County. He studied under A.N.Lindenmuth and J. Sloan and was a member of the S.Indp.Artists, ASL, Provincetown A.A. and the American Abstract Artists.

A framed woodblock print by the hand of one of the masters of 20th century Japanese printmaking, 8 1/2" by 11 1/4" inside the existing mat, 15" by 18" framed, signed in pencil by the artist at lower right and numbered 43/120 at lower left margin in pencil. The image is of a nighttime snowfall in front of a traditional Japanese structure. Sekino was creating art before age 20. He knew Shiko Munakata, the famous printmaker, while still young, as they were from the same area...

Oil on canvas, 16 1/2" by 28 1/2" (20" by 32" framed), the scene a Mediterranean California style courtyard garden complete with fountain pond, palms and other vegetation, signed at lower left by the artist, one Daisy Dean Lucas, and dated there 1938. A google search shows an interesting tidbit concerning a woman by that name in Kern County, California, estranged from her apparently wealthy husband and attempting to sue him in the year 1937...

Plate signed in the lower right, with the publisher's blindstamp, le Cercle Moderne, in the lower left. C. 1912. Edition of 200, from the Paris series. Probably printed by the artist in black ink on cream wove paper with full margins, as issued. A fine impression with a rich drypoint burr.

African (possibly, west African) wood carving of a face with decorative motifs, two eye holes, extreme dimensions 23 1/2" by 4" by 3", hand painted and carved out of one block of wood. It has some age. An interesting work for a long narrow space that needs some decoration.
