Oil on quality canvas painting of a body of water glimpsed through trees in a foggy, veiled atmosphere, titled on reverse "On the Train to Paris 2003", and signed there by what appears as "Lantin Gunison" or similar. The title captures beautifully a particular scene that would appear only very momentarily on a long train ride, never to be seen again. Surprisingly, given the quality of the work, I am unable to locate an artist by that name or similar (though, I may be misreading the signature)...

Robert Sargent Austin 1895-1973 English This is a finely detailed line engraving by British artist Robert Sargen Austin. The title is: "The Pack Bridge, Aylestone, Leicestershire". The image measures 4 13/16X4 7/16 inches. It was created and printed in 1926 and appears in the Dodgson catalog as image number 65. It was printed in an edition of 60.

An Old Master woodcut illustration of Theuerdank defeating another knight, one of 118 cuts illustrating one of the greatest books of the German Renaissance, going by that same name, Theuerdank. The book is considered something of a chivalric romance, relating the fictionalized, romanticized adventures of Maximilian I in the course of his journey to the Netherlands in 1477 to fetch his bride, Mary of Burgundy...

Unusually fresh and well preserved watercolor on paper painting of a pond in a wooded area, spring wildflowers in the foreground, 13 3/4" by 19 1/2" inside the mat, 23 1/2" by 29" as framed, signed at lower right and dated there 1908 by the noted New England artist and teacher HENRY WEBSTER RICE (1853-1934). Rice was born in Maine, the son of a carriage maker. A pupil of Ross Sterling Turner, he went on to become a much beloved watercolorist and instructor...

A nice English c1795 miniature of a gent wearing a white shirt and ascot, with a red waistcoat and black jacket. The reverse of the gilded metal case has a a central fabric section set into an opalescent surround over guilloche work. Excellent condition with an overall size of 2 5/8" by 2 1/8".

Original charcoal drawing by Jean Hippolyte Marchand (French, 1883-1940). Initialed JHM l.r. Also with a gallery label verso from Crane Kalman Gallery, 178 Brompton Rd. London, which gives the name of the artist, the title of the work, and the name of the purchaser in 1967. Crane Kalman Gallery handled the estate of the artist and held a number of exhibitions of his work, including a retrospective exhibition in 1967. One of three works by this artist currently available.

Peter Moran, American, 1842-1914, "Through the Meadows". This is a beautiful, richly inked original etching by Peter Moran, image size 13 x 19 7/8 inches, published in 1886 by Klackner. It is state IV/IV, cat: Wright-92, pencil signed and titled on the lower margin. This image is listed with the title "Through the Meadow Stream" in the Wright catalog, although there are several alternate titles including the one that appears on this impression.

Original etching by Jacques Callot LE MASSACRE DES INNOCENTS printed in 1618 in Florence, powerful violent biblical scene represented in a European city setting. Lieure catalog number 278, second state of two, excellent impression of this important print. In excellent condition, framed and glazed, not examined outside of frame. Plate size 13,5 x 107 mm (5 3/8 x 4 3/16 inches), frame size 11 x 9 inches.

A pretty circa 1950 still life on Masonite board, 18" by 24" (26 1/2" by 32 1/2" framed), the subject given on the reverse as "Red Camellia Bouquet", signed at lower right and again on the reverse by German-born artist JOHN WILLIAM ORTH (1889-1976). Orth was born in Bavaria and studied art in Europe before fleeing for the United States in 1923 for political reasons. For a time he was in Texas and later painted in California, and he is today most associated with those states...

Acrylic on canvas painting titled on reverse "Memory of Rosie", 17" by 24" (21 1/2" by 29" framed). The image is whimsical and rather mysterious, consisting of three white vases or pots each bearing an image, one of a cat, one a bird, one a jester; one speculates that perhaps, Rosie was a beloved cat. Highly stylized plants or flowers emerge from the pots. The artist signed at lower right and dated the painting 1984...

Berthe Morisot 1841-1895 French This is an original etching by French artist Berthe Morisot. The title is: Femme Nu de Dos, this etching was created in 1889. This is a later printing after the plate had the cancellation holes at the upper and lower ends of the plate. These holes were later filled in the 20th century and the etching was re-editioned, This state is less common. The image measures 5 7/16X415/16 inches. Unsigned as issued...

Oil on canvas still life of peaches and compote in the East Coast style of the latter part of the 19th century, 21" by 27", presently unframed, signed at lower left "C H Harmon" and dated what appears to be 1880 (or, 1880 something, difficult to read last digit). This is a skillfully painted still life in the tradition of eastern masters like the Ream's, or members of the so-called Fall River School. The table appears to be Eastlake Victorian, with its marble top...

This is an example of the large chromolithograph of the Grand Canyon, made after the famous painting by Thomas Moran, for the Santa Fe Railroad. The work measures 23 2/3" by 35" and the pleasing wood frame is 2 3/8" on a side. This example of this well-known print is offered in as-is condition, with most notably an approximately 1" across hole at lower left, and a number of areas of missing paper, showing in the images as white areas...
