A beautifully crafted oil on board painting of a barge and its brightly painted bow at a river dock in Europe, 13 3/4" by 17" (19 1/2" by 23" in inexpensive modern frame). signed at lower left by master Hungarian artist ERVIN KORMENDI-FRIM (1885-1939). A number of small figures, a bridge span, and distant buildings complete the richly-painted scene. The distinct structure at center right in the distance could provide a clue as to where in Europe this might be...

This is a print from the original woodblocks, of the work "Jongleur", 1938, from the series "Le Cirque de l'Etoile Filante (Circus of the Shooting Star) by the important French artist GEORGES ROUAULT (1871-1958). The print is quite small, 2 7/8" by 2 1/8" inside the mat (9 1/2" by 8 1/4" as framed). I believe that this is from the edition published at a later date by the Collectors' Guild of New York, as other examples I have seen are identically framed, and with their label on the reverse...

One of a number in my shop inventory, this is a fresh and clean example of one of William Russell Flint's fine color photolithographs issued for collectors over a period of decades. This example, published in 1961 in an edition of 750, is signed in pencil at lower right and bears the characteristic embossed blindstamp in lower left margin. The title is "The Shower". The print measures 17 3/4" by 22 1/2" inside the mat and 26 1/2" by 30 1/2" as framed...

Pastel on paper work, the subject a wintry tree and split rail fence in a snowy landscape, a distant house with smoke from a chimney suggestive of a snug refuge from the cold. The work is signed at lower left "E Taylor". Most likely, the date of execution is within ten years of the turn of the century. Condition is excellent. Measurements are 12" by 17 3/4" inside the mat and 21 1/2"by 26" in silvery modern framing with gold tint (some wear noted especially at bottom)...

Watercolor on paper painting of redwood, sequoia or pine tree trunk in a forest, unframed, 9 1/4" by 7 3/4", signed at lower left "Mary Inez Tidwell". The work is possibly a fragment, as the top edge and right edge in particular seem to indicate that there might have been more painting at one time; however, there are pin holes in the upper corners and indications of round tacks having been there, so possibly the painting is as originally created...

The work is nicely executed and were it signed we would likely know that it was created by a listed artist. The date I would estimate as circa 1920 to 1940 or so. Contemporary pencil and watercolor drawing in simple metal gold framing, the subject two women apparently dancing in a late 19th century cafe, the drawing 8 1/2" by 5 1/4" inside the mat (the entire sheet significantly larger, at 11 3/4" by 8 1/4"), signed at lower right "Dan" or "Han" or similar. The scene reminds of George Grosz' 1920's drawings of Berlin cafe goers, or even Toulouse Lautrec's Parisian cafe's. The drawing is nicely crafted.

Painting on canvasboard, I believe in tempera or similar, (not oil), 16" by 20" (21" by 25" framed), titled on reverse "SWAYBACK", and signed at lower right "CHARLES TRUMBO HENRY" and dated there 1948. The artist was a student of Thomas Hart Benton, Boardman Robinson, and George Grosz. Little known today, he was an active exhibitor and major museums include his work in their collections. Henry was born in Niagara Falls, New York, and his remains are at Hollywood Forever Cemetery in Los Angele...
