One of a number of fresh and clean examples of William Russell Flint prints in my shop, this is a fine photolithograph, published in 1956 in a limited edition of 700 examples, titled "Le Quatorze Juillet". Flint was in the southern French town of Mauvezin on Bastille Day 1954, and it is thought possible that the sketch he made from his hotel room of the scene he saw in front of him ultimately became this image...

I was not able to locate information on the artist until I dug down into the internet, which provided a snippet from a 1956 Pasadena, California newspaper...

A circa 1990's signed oil on canvas painting of a coastal scene, 8" by 15", approximately 15" by 22" framed, signed lower left by acclaimed contemporary California artist RITA HOFFMAN SHULAK (1947-). I contacted the artist online, and she was kind enough to respond that this was her work, a not completed painting, probably of the La Jolla rocks in San Diego. She said that the work is from a period when she was experimenting with "washes"...

Unsigned as issued. This image was part of his well known series titled "Cirque". The image measures 12 1/8X8 1/4 inches, printed on a medium weight wove type paper. This series was printed by Maurice Potin, in Paris...

19th Century American School 1800-1899 American Artists This is an original oil on canvas painting of an Ox and Cart coming down the road. The painting has 3 intials lower right, they seem to read: "W. ?. S." Weve been unable to make out who the artist was. We feel the painting is from the late 1890's and is most likely American in origin. The painting was expertly done. The canvas laid on board measures 19X13 inches and is in a 19th century gilt frame.

A colorful, somewhat whimsical painting of the dramatic California coastline, with houses and palm trees and tiny figures showing the imprint of man on this physically dramatic and beautiful geography. The painting, 22" by 28", unframed, is signed at lower right by artist Sidney Hall. I do see online information for a California, female artist who signs Sydney Hall, but am not sure this is the same individual. The present work is not brand new; could date to 1980's or 1990's possibly...

A fine mixed media study drawing in charcoal and white gouache of a soldier seemingly leaning against a wagon wheel, 10 1/4" by 7 5/8" inside the present mat (the sheet only very slightly larger), and 22 1/2" by 18 1/2" in gold frame with hand drawn lines), titled "Bataille de l'Alma"on the mat, signed with an impressed/embossed signature "I PILS" at lower right. The drawing features a scene from the Crimean War (1854)...

Oil on canvas painting of a small sailing craft on the sea, a dinghy towed behind it and another sailing boat on the horizon, 18" by 14" (24" by 20 1/2" framed), signed at lower left by noted American listed artist HENDRICKS HALLETT (1847-1921). Hallett was known for his marine paintings and historical works, and was especially adept at watercolor. The artist studied in Antwerp and Paris and returned to Boston for further training...

Watercolor on paper landscape, 10 1/2" by 7" inside the early-style gold mat, 18 1/2" by 14 1/2" as framed, signed in blue at lower right "J.A. HANCOX". No listings were found for this artist, but the work appears certainly to be of English origin. There is fairly heavy foxing especially at top in the sky, and a small bar of lighter paper there. It appears that the artist signed in lower right corner and then tried to rub it out there before re-signing it two inches higher up.

Gouache on paper drawing of a Baltimore Oriole and a blue jay, 12 1/2" by 16" (23 3/4" by 28" framed), signed at lower right by the noted Disney illustrator AUGUST CURLEY LENOX (1908-1986). This is a really nicely executed work, in the style of an illustrator like Lynn Bogue Hunt or William Schaldach or Rex Brasher. Colors are vivid and the realism is such that the viewer can almost "hear" these birds. I suppose it could have been executed as a book or magazine illustration...

Very decorative truly antique, 1770's print of an elegant lady standing, in the sanguine color, crayon technique (also known as "chalk-manner") perfected by talented eighteenth century artist GILLES DEMARTEAU (1722-1776). The print, executed after a painting by the great French Rococo master Jean-Honore Fragonard, measures 15" by 10 5/8" inside the fine French matting, with gilt border and numerous outlines, that in turn housed in a gold leaf antique frame measuring 22" by 18"...

Watercolor on paper, 6" by 15 1/4" (11" by 20" as framed), unsigned, the subject drawn completely in shades of brown, circa turn of the century or early 20th century, Included in the scene are a number of sail boats of various sizes, and there are a few coastal shacks and houses in the scene, as well as a few tiny figures. Most likely this is a work by an amateur from the east coast, perhaps Massachusetts or the like. The present mat is not professionally cut...

This is a modernist work (the medium appears to be tempera on board), measuring 10" by 17" (14" by 20 1/2" framed). It is signed at lower left by noted artist AMBROSE PATTERSON (1877-1967) and titled on the reverse, rather mysteriously, "The Alert". This is a late painting by the artist, who had a very different style earlier in his long painting career...

PAIR of oils on canvas board of historic old structures in landscapes, each 9" by 12" (14 1/4" by 17 1/2" in similar but not identical white wood frames), one signed in red at lower left by listed Philadelphia artist HARRY JAMES OSHIVER (1888-1974). Oshiver was a pupil of Daniel Garber , Henry McCarter, and Hugh Breckenridge. Born in Moscow, Russia, he studied at the Spring Gardens Institute and at the Pennsylvania Academy.
