Peonies and Delphiniums’ by Eva Wedlow, circa 1920’s, signed lower left, oil on panel, 26.5” x 31”.
Typed paper stapled to the reverse of the work reads “x515 Original English oil on panel - a floral still life of iris, peonies and delphiniums By Eva Wedlow”. A portrait of an elderly man is on the reverse of the panel. Eva Wedlow was a ‘flower society painter’ of the 1920’s, highly considered by aristocrats at the time.
Mat to satin finish with dramatic graining, pulling both the light and dark tones with it. Round, flat top. Very solid and heavy in weight! Makes for an incredible side table for home. Cylindrical body with use of negative space, pushing and pulling naturalistically within. Base sits flat on floor.
