A beautiful Landscape oil from a very old collection of art, James Stuart American artist. The painting measuring 5x8 inches on panel
James STUART 1868-1941, was a grandson of the painter Gilbert Stuart, known for his work with President George Washington. The artist said he painted more than 5,000 paintings in his lifetime.
A fine miniature portrait, attributed to J.V. Sturgeon, of a gent posed in front of a green curtain with blue skies visible through the window. This type of setting is uncommon in American minis, but has been done by Sturgeon in some of his works.
The miniature is set in the original gilded copper pendant with a glazed aperture on the reverse containing plaited dark hair. Excellent condition with no issues to speak of...

Original oil painting on Masonite panel by Martyl Langsdorf (AKA Martyl Suzanne Schweig Langsdorf, USA, 1917-2013). Signed "Martyl" l.l. Also monogrammed "MTL" within a triangle and dated 1958 verso. 24" by 36" painting alone, 29" by 41" framed. In excellent condition.
Martyl was the creator of the iconic "Doomsday Clock" in 1947. She created a number of murals during the WPA period, and is known as an abstract expressionist with a fondness for abstracted landscapes.

Martha Odum's work was exhibited at the Georgia Museum of Art in Athens. She was married to Eugene Odum (The University of GA's School of Ecology is named after him). He is considered to be the founder of modern ecology. Martha Odum's paintings reflect this commitment to understand nature's processes.
A nice example of a miniature portrait, painted by Nathaniel Hancock on organic material. The sitter is a woman in a blue gown with a lace edged bodice. The gold case has chamfered glass on the front, and the reverse identifies the sitter as "Ridgely 1791."
The condition of this little gem is very fine, with no flaws to speak of. There was some minimal clean-up of a few painting drips in the background...
