An oil on board (Masonite) still life of vase filled with daisies and poppies, sitting serenely on a table with a pewter coffee pot nearby. A couple of petals have fallen, a couple of leaves have drooped - in the quiet of the day, the plants give their last beauty. The frame is exceptional for this painting, appearing to be 19th century with a white embossed liner. The frame has a light mounted on top. The painting is signed lower right J Adler 1966.

In some ways the Albert Bierstadt of Europe, Frederick Kammeyer ( 1873 - 1941 ) painted grand lavish landscapes of Europe's beautiful mountain scenes. The oil on linen offered here renders a rapid stream coursing through a wooded valley against the backdrop of majestic imposing mountains in the background but never out of view. A classical courting scene of a young man and woman who is admiring the flowers brought to her by her beau. Oil on board in extravagant gilt frame with rococo embellishments, and contemporaneous with painting. We date the painting c. 1780 - 1830 and of European origins.
Painting is good condition as is the frame, but both are soiled, while the latter bears signs of age such as occasional discoloration. Unsigned.

What a treat to have a genuine chromolithograph after seeing so many offset lithographs! This nostalgic vignette of children fishing was produced with highest production standards and retains its fresh striking colors nearly 120 years after its production. The matting and framing obscure the publisher and artist, but it is of a caliber of the very best illustrators of the day...
