A beautifully executed, sensitive set of five study drawings on one sheet of paper, 8 7/8" by 9" (15 3/4" by 14 1/2" in gold metal frame), the work featuring a lonely-looking donkey, titled at lower left "Alistair", dated Sept. 1984 and signed there by the late Scottish woman artist MARYSIA DONALDSON (died 2018). Donaldson captured beautifully her noble subject, who reminds of lonely Eeyore, in his pasture, in the Christopher Robin/Winnie The Pooh stories...

Original ink drawing on brown paper circa 1921 by Isidor Ascheim (German-born Israeli artist, 1891-1968). Well framed. Signed l.r. Also identified by two labels from Denenberg Fine Art, Boston, verso. 17" by 13" work alone, 20" by 16" in frame. Isidor Ascheim is an important Israeli artist who studied in Breslau with Otto Mueller and Fryederyk Pautsch. He emigrated to Israel in 1939. His works are in the collections of a number of museums.

Carles was born in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, and studied at the Pennsylvania Academy of the Fine Arts between 1900 and 1907. He studied with Thomas Pollock Anshutz, Hugh Breckenridge, Henry McCarter, Cecilia Beaux, and William Merritt Chase. In 1907 he traveled to France where he remained until 1910. This one is hard to describe....but I will start somewhere. It is an oil on canvas work, unframed, 24" by 24", with no signature on the front, and only "SARAH W." on the overlap giving any possible indication as to who painted this. A green eye within a triangular window in to a human face stares at the viewer, Magritte-like, as the face of a young black child stares from the lower right corner, as a complex pair of intertwined figures at lower left make for arresting and dream-like imagery...

A work of fine calligraphy that stands on its own as a work of art, the drawing in watercolor, and gouache/tempera, with a reflective gold paint applied in small diamond shapes, by Southern California contemporary calligrapher artist CAROL HICKS. The work measures 8" by 11" (12 3/4" by 15 3/4" in gold frame). Close examination reveals a wonder of lettering, and even a pattern of finger-like branching three dimensional paint. From one collection, EIGHT framed watercolor drawings (****NOT PRINTS****) of flowering botanical specimens, with their respective Latin classification names written in brown ink, generally at lower left. The works are on an exceedingly delicate tissue-like paper, which is then affixed at edges to a card, causing a puckering effect of the paper. There is another original drawing on the reverse side of one of the works (not pictured). I have opened all eight in search of a signature of the art...
