Original ink drawing on brown paper circa 1921 by Isidor Ascheim (German-born Israeli artist, 1891-1968). Well framed. Signed l.r. Also identified by two labels from Denenberg Fine Art, Boston, verso. 17" by 13" work alone, 20" by 16" in frame. Isidor Ascheim is an important Israeli artist who studied in Breslau with Otto Mueller and Fryederyk Pautsch. He emigrated to Israel in 1939. His works are in the collections of a number of museums.

Charcoal drawing on paper laid on thin board, 28" by 38", unframed, signed at lower right "McBride". I am not familiar with the apparently unlisted artist might be but he or she was talented and possibly familiar with the San Francisco School/California School, Northern California School of art---artists like David Park, Nathan Oliveira, Elmer Bischoff and Manuel Neri. The haunting face especially reminds me of some of these esteemed artists' works...

A framed nicely worked crayon on paper drawing of roses (possibly, Alberta wild roses?), signed at lower right "M R 1944". The stiff wove paper sheet measures 15" by 11", and as framed (to the top of the arch), 22" by 17". The framing appears to be the 1940's original. I acquired the work locally here in Los Angeles some years back...

A vintage study in charcoal of an infant on its back, 12" by 15" (16" by 19" framed), signed at lower right with what appears as "H Collins", and dated adjacent Sept. 14, 1953. I do not see a listed name that would correspond with this name or variants of it. The study is artistic, reminiscent of timeless Italian Renaissance drawings. There is age toning of the paper and some lighter, whitish areas at lower left, above the infant's left arm, and at lower right.

An original drawing on paper of couples sitting at tables in a formal garden patio setting, attended to by a waiter, signed at lower left margin by the well-listed California artist CLARK HOBART (1868-1948). The sheet, unframed and currently in a protective plastic sleeve, measures 10" by 8 1/2". Hobart was born in Rockford, Illinois. He was in California as a child, then studied at the San Francisco School of Design under Stanton and Giuseppe Cadenasso and also privately with William Keith...

A PAIR of ink on wove paper drawings apparently by the same anonymous talented artist, one work featuring a southern American-looking old historic style home, the other a fountain in a southern European street scene (probably Italy). I opened the items and determined that there is no signature of any kind, nor any other indication of authorship. The home scene has pencil sketching on the reverse, possibly a very sketchy, preliminary architectural plan drawing...

Original ink on paper drawing of four ducks in flight over a swamp or marsh, circa 1930's, signed at lower right with initials "P.Z.", which appears to correspond with inscription on backing "Painted or sketched by Paul Zeeze". At top on backing, is written "James Zeeze". Online research suggests the name may be found in Minnesota, which would make sense with duck habitat. Measures 10" by 6 1/4" inside the mat and 14 3/4" by 10 3/4" in black strip frame.

A wonderful landscape drawing in graphite by CARLES, measuring about 4” x 6” on paper, …… Carles was born in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, and studied at the Pennsylvania Academy of the Fine Arts between 1900 and 1907. He studied with Thomas Pollock Anshutz, Hugh Breckenridge, Henry McCarter, Cecilia Beaux, and William Merritt Chase. In 1907 he traveled to France where he remained until 1910...

This is a fascinating drawing, in that it appears to be a photograph, such as a rotogravure print........but, it is not. It is guaranteed unconditionally to be an original watercolor, ink and gouache drawing of an old portal, possibly the entry to a church. The door seems to have been a favorite motif for generations of German and traveling artists.....a favorite "motif" just like the iconic red fishing shack in Rockport, Massachusetts, or the Brulatour Courtyard in New Orleans...

Crayon drawing on paper of village rooftops in a European mountain setting, 8 3/4" by 11 3/8" inside the mat, 14 1/2" by 17" in simple strip frame (not pictured), unsigned. The artist was talented but unfortunately remains anonymous. There are a few scribbles on the reverse side of the paper (see last image). The work dates to the first half of the twentieth century. It is in good condition, consistent with its age; some paper toning and very slight ripple.
