THREE circa 1960's gouache on heavy paper abstract drawings, unframed, each 24" by 18", each signed at lower right "Greene". The works definitely seem to have some age as the reverse side of the paper is brown and vintage. I cannot connect these to any particular artist so offer them as decorative mid-century works. Condition is excellent, with just one edge nick on one drawing. Each is in a protective-only plastic poster box...

This is a very fine, classical early drawing, 5 1/8" by 8 5/8" (12" by 15 3/4" in attractive ornate gold leaf frame), not dated but likely dating to the 1830's through 1850 or so, signed at lower center by the artist "Loisel". The drawing, executed in pen, watercolor, and gum arabic highlighting in the trees and the low bank in center, is in excellent fresh condition, belying its age...

A hand embroidered landscape of "Fox Hill Farm", in the tradition of Grandma Moses and numerous other artists of the second half of the twentieth century who worked in her popular naive style, but actually after a Charles Wysocki original painting, signed at lower right with initials "TJO" and dated 1986. The piece measures 13 1/2" by 18" (19" by 23" framed)...

Watercolor and ink drawing of the Seine in Paris by Notre Dame, 7" by 8 3/4" (13" by 15" framed), signed at lower left in pencil "Leprin". This COULD be a work by well listed artist MARCEL LEPRIN (1891-1933). I hesitate to state unequivocally that it is, as the long hand signature differs from the commonly seen all-capital letters version. The artist was known to do very similar works of Paris, and many other parts of France, from Normandy to Marseilles...

For the natural history aficionado or decorator, a PAIR of original finely detailed drawings in watercolor and ink, one titled faintly in pencil "Scorpions", the other featuring other unidentified but quite exotic-looking creatures with many legs. Each drawing is 8 1/4" by 6 1/2" inside the mat, and the works are identically framed (13" by 11")...

Contemporary Australian aboriginal art "dot" painting, acrylic on a thin canvas, signed on the reverse by artist POLLY PUNTJUNTA, and stamped with the Original Aboriginal Art Company stamp, of Adelaide, South Australia. The work measures 15" by 26 1/2" (23" by 34" in a wood frame with scratches). The past framer elected to place the reverse wire so as to hang this vertically, though I do not believe there is any particular reason to have done so. The work might be more logically horizontal...

An interesting marriage of Japanese kirigami or "kirie" art, (paper intricately cut to a lace-like appearance, that finished work, in this example, a crane standing in water, and surrounded by pine trees) and a circa 1885 American Eastlake style gold and black frame. The paper art measures 5 1/2" by 5", and the entire framed piece 15" by 13 1/2". The kirigami has been laid against a green-blue crushed velvet type surface, creating an interesting effect...

An unusually beautiful and impressive example of Vietnamese lacquer painting, an art form that goes back many centuries in China and Southeast Asia. The technical process is very complex, involving application of multiple layers. This panel, unframed, measures 15 1/2" by 23 1/4" and it is not signed. Note the gold showing through in many areas, and the detail of the figures and general atmosphere and luminosity created by the artist in a notoriously difficult medium.

This one is certainly a challenge to describe----but I will give it a go. A mixed media (watercolor, gouache, pastel and gold metallic paint mix) painting, the subject a fantastic, surreal, dream-like scene including a supine male figure with ants on his chest, leopard-like creature, moth, skulls, green, opportunistic poisonous-looking tropical style snake emerging from a woman's body, and bat hanging upside down! The piece is an impressive size at 29 1/2" by 22" (34 1/2" by 27" framed)...

Offered is a miniature portrait of a gentleman in black coat by Henry Colton Shumway, circa 1830. Original rare identified miniature painting by artist Henry Colton Shumway of New York Businessman Henry S. Mulligan 1838, 30 November, 2pm. Along with this painting there is a hair sample and an hand written letter by his wife Sally Chaplin Howell that talks about this miniature being painted by the artist H.C. Found in Massachusetts, a mixed media (pastel, pencil and black ink) old drawing on paper of a clipper ship at sea, 7" by 9 1/2" (15" by 18 1/2" framed behind glass), signed at lower right corner with initials "A.L" or "A. G." or similar. The ship flies an unidentified flag at the stern. I feel this is likely European though it could possibly be of American origin...

Australian aboriginal art, painted on eucalyptus bark in the traditional manner, the imagery featuring four long-necked birds and leaves, against a patterned background. The work might bear the name of the artist on the reverse, written in white chalk, but that is indecipherable. The word "Mapuru" is readable; this is a remote, pure, isolated area of northeast Arnhem Land in the tropical north of the country, about 600 km...

Acquired as one of a number of works by late Bozeman, Montana artist MARION "MAL" LEWIS (1925-2010), this is a fine collage work, undated, titled "Silhouette Collage" on original accompanying sticker, not framed (just matted), likely from late in the artist's life. While traveling through Montana I came upon a group of mostly collage, abstract works by this artist, though there is at least one non-abstract work, a New Mexico drawing, that I will be listing. This measures 12" by 13" inside the pr...

Pencil with white highlight drawing on brown paper, 9 1/2" by 15 3/4" (17" by 23" framed), the subject a number of different types of boats along a dramatic coast, possibly Whitby, England, circa 1860, signed at extreme lower left corner in pencil "Fowler". The drawing, which is laid on a thin board, features various types of sailing craft, and, in the foreground, a rowboat. A castle like structure crowns the prominent hill. Eastern England's coastal Whitby, often depicted in artworks, has a ...
