Oil on canvas, 18" by 12 1/2", unframed, signed at lower right "F M Shane", and inscribed on reverse of the canvas, "Loveland Canon/Road to Estes Park/Colorado/1925". This work is somewhat primitive but the artist has created an interesting painting. There is a listed artist Frederick Emmanuel Shane (1906-1992), a Missouri regionalist who also painted in Colorado; conceivably this could be an early work of that artist, for some reason signed "F M Shane"...

This is a late 19th century American painting by an anonymous artist, from the heart of the Victorian age. It measures 16" by 24" on the original stretchers (21 1/4" by 30" including the frame and probably original red velvet liner)...

Oil on board, 20" by 24" and frame 2 3/4" wide, signed in the paint at lower right "H. YOSHIZUMI" and dated there "57". Titled on two labels "Monterey Wharf", this is a striking, impressionist yet modern painting by a talented artist who was born in nearby Watsonville of Japanese ancestry. Yoshizumi was incarcerated during World War II at the Poston, Arizona internment camp. Many net references discuss the art he was able to produce while there, depicting his grim and alien surroundings...

Oil on canvas, 9 1/2" by 13 14" (18" by 22 1/2" as framed), signed in red at lower left "J. A. McClurg" and dated there with what looks like "1900" or "1908"...

Oil on canvas laid on board painting of a young woman in a long white dress among trees and flowering shrubs in a spring landscape, 8 1/2" by 10 1/2" (12 1/2" by 14 1/2" as framed), apparently unsigned but inscribed on the reverse "In the Pupke's Garden/by Lydia Longacre"...

Watercolor on paper landscape of lush green mountains of Kauai, a mother and her child, palm trees and an historical one story building, the Waoli Social Hall, originally built in 1841 during whaling days as a mission church, the painting measuring 18 1/2" by 25" inside the present mat (presently unframed), signed at lower right "D Williams". The work is not dated but I would guess it would have been created around the late 1960's or early 1970's...

Oil on masonite, 18" by 7 3/4" (24" by 13 3/4" as framed with liner), depicting two young girls and their classic olla-type water or grain pots. This is likely a New Mexico or Arizona scene, executed in tan and brown earth tone colors. The painting is signed in black at lower left "Ch. Bragg"; I am not certain that this be the work of the famous California-based American illustrator Charles Bragg (1931-), though, it might well be his work...

Detailed Indonesian painting in the classic style from the island of Bali, Indonesia, painted in tempera on cotton canvas laid on board, measuring 21 1/4" by 17". The painting is unusually well executed compared to many from this "school" of painting; the artist was of above average talent, though he or she did not sign the work. Note the expressions on the faces, the intensity of the dragon, the spotted mysterious forest creature monster at lower left. Condition is excellent...

This oil on canvas, 16" by 20" (24" by 28" as framed), is a fine work of self-taught, listed artist SAMUEL KOCHMEISTER, (1887-1963, and also known as KOCH). The artist was born in Poland and escaped persecution by relocating in New York. Fairly obscure today, his talents were recognized early, with exhibits of his work having been held at the Brooklyn Museum, Corcoran, Metropolitan Museum, Museum of Modern Art, and the Smithsonian...

Oil on canvas painting of a matador in his suit of lights, 31" by 23", unframed, not signed but inscribed on the stretcher with the name of the artist and title "portrait of a matador".. This is a circa late 1940's or perhaps 1950's work I would guess, by noted listed artist JOSEPH WEISMAN (1907-1994). Weisman was born in the east but was already in California as a young man...

This is one of three works I am offering, by a talented Canadian mid 20th century painter who signed her works "Eola Sutherland". Although there is online a photo of a gravestone for an Eola Hayton Sutherland (1884-1967) of Ontario, likely our painter, there is a lack of biographical information on the artist. Her skill is obvious, as is her familiarity with the Group of Seven and their style. Several have sold at auction in Toronto. This example measures 16" by 20", and is oil on board...

PAIR of unframed, unstretched oil on canvas paintings, the larger 20" by 24", the smaller one 17 1/4" by 22", both signed at lower right "Allen H. Newton" and bearing inscriptions on the reverse showing the locations in Andover, Connecticut (east of Hartford, between there and Willimantic in the northeastern part of the state)...

Colorful watercolor on paper of a ceramic figure with copper pot and summer fruit, measuring 6 1/2" by 5 7/8" (13" by 12 3/4" as framed, no glass), likely the work of noted American artist FREDERIC GRANT (1886-1959). The work is apparently unsigned, but, on the original framing paper appears in a modern hand "BY FREDERICK GRANT"; originally there was also an old framer's sticker from Chicago but it has apparently dropped off since I purchased this. See the askart listing, and the images thereo...

This unframed 20" by 24" oil on canvas landscape painting is something of a mystery. It is signed "J.V.C." and dated 1851 at lower left (see very close up photos), and on the wood stretcher on the reverse is incised "John V. Cornell New York". I believe there is an excellent possibility that this is a work by the historical New York painter John V. Cornell but I cannot prove it. He seems to have been an obscure fellow, though he is listed in the book of historical painters born before 1860, a...

Watercolor on paper, 14" square and 3 1/4" frame and mat, unsigned, of flowers in a vase. This is the work of a skilled and likely listed artist but I do not see a hint of a signature. It was purchased near Baton Rouge, Louisiana and the reverse framing paper shows what appears to be a Houston, Texas address. Condition is excellent with no stains or foxing.

Oil on wood panel, 24" by 19 1/2" (61 cm. by 50 cm.), unframed, signed at lower right "E. Frey", a well listed French artist with a number of auction records. The work is undated, though titled on an original 1934 exhibition label on reverse "Le Rocher Fleuri a Monaco". This is a beautifully painted Mediterranean landscape with the golden light one expects to find in that region. The old retaining wall seems barely able to hold in the vegetation straining to escape it. Cacti, agave and flower...

Pastel and gouache mixed media work on red paper, measuring 18 1/4" by 13 1/2" plus thin old black wood frame, signed at lower right with what appears to be "Macero Arbuckle" and dated '04 (1904). I don't see any information on the artist. This is an interesting illustration work that is quite subtle, and being subtle, doesn't lend itself to being photographed easily. Condition is excellent. There is an old sticker on glass at lower left corner with "13" written on it.

Watercolor painting of a schooner or other coastal sailing ship, 11 1/2" by 17 3/4" (19 1/4" by 25 1/4" as framed), signed at lower left by listed California artist LOYAL MAYER (1919-2011). The watercolor is a fine decorative example of marine art in excellent condition. Frame is wood and shows just a little bit of wear which could be easily sanded and restained. The artist, a recent resident of central California (Atascadero), was born in Kansas City and trained at the Kansas City Art Instit...
