Antique French Impressionist Landscape Oil Painting oil on canvas signed in monogram and dated 1921 lower right by Theodora Moore (1879-1968). Moore was a British artist who studied in Paris, in Bechenham at the “Yellow Door Art School,” and in St. Ives...

Watercolor on paper painting of a traditional Bermuda home, luxuriant tropical vegetation partially obscuring it, 9 3/4" by 14" (19" by 24 1/2" as framed), signed at lower left in pencil by artist Charles G. Long. There is no date but I would imagine this pre-dates 1940. The handwriting suggests that the artist was English or Bermudian. The colors are unusually fresh and rich; obviously this has escaped exposure to ultraviolet light...

PAIR of unsigned watercolors from Japan, one featuring a seaside beacon or shrine, the other small boats along a coast, a volcano (possibly Mt. Fuji) in the distance. The works were found intact and identically framed, but in shipping one frame essentially broke apart and may not be serviceable at this point. One painting measures 4 1/4" by 11 1/2", the other slightly smaller at 3 3/4" by 10 3/4" (and that one 9 3/4" by 17 1/2" framed)...

Vintage watercolor painting of a bridge, a brick smokestack in the distance and some trees at right, signed at lower right by artist E. M. Woodworth and dated there 1915. The piece as framed in veneer mahogany measures 17" by 20 1/2", the painting itself 10" by 13 3/4". Found in Connecticut; likely a northeastern scene. Simple and charming. Small chip to veneer at upper and lower right corners. Glass reflection at top.

This is an unsigned, unframed, double-sided watercolor on heavy watercolor paper, 14 1/2" by 10 1/4", one side featuring a partially nude woman with arms behind her head, a decorative flowered textile of some sort covering the lower portion of her body; the other side features an outdoor amphitheater nighttime performance---perhaps, it has been suggested, the Hollywood Bowl. The vintage piece was acquired from a large collection of art that came from the estate of Brooks Pettus (1918-2003)...

Mid twentieth century oil on canvas painting of mallard ducks in flight, signed at lower left "De Marcillac", the measurements 21 1/2" by 43", a several inch wide whitewashed frame available with the painting. This is a beautifully painted work that will be surely appreciated by the sportsman or decoy collector. There is a small bit of work visible on the net by an illustrator going by this name, but I cannot tie the piece to that artist...

A fine, circa 1870 American oil on canvas painting of a river scene with feathery trees, distant mountains, Gothic ruins, and a lone boater, all bathed in the late afternoon luminosity, now unsigned due to missing areas, but, almost certainly by a listed or even important listed artist. The unframed work measures 22" by 30". There is a large central roughly horizontal cut, several other punctures, and paint is missing at left and right edges from roughly one inch to four or so inches in...

A 14" by 9 1/2" watercolor (25" by 20 1/2" framed) by a skilled mid to late 20th century artist, the subject the entry area and classic old style doorway of a 19th century American home. The obviously antique home features appealing details such small panes in windows surrounding the door, decorative wallpaper, banister and grand staircase...

PAIR of attractive impressionist paintings of a late autumn landscape with flaming trees, and a stream in a birch forest in spring, both oil on canvasboard, each signed lower right by artist M. F. BILAN and dated 1954. The artist does not appear to be listed but was talented. The strong contrast of the seasons portrayed makes the pair very complementary. The name suggests Russian or Jewish heritage. Frames are original and one has some staining at left as shown...

A finely detailed 1844 watercolor painting of an extensive German landscape, with fascinating details including numerous tiny figures fishing and admiring the river and its cascades, a mountaintop castle, church, and countless trees. The sheet measures 15" by 19", the drawing inside squared lines 11 1/4" by 16 3/4". In the lower margin is a lot of writing, some of it tiny. At left we see "Rastadt den 2en Oktober 1844"; at right we see "A. F. Waizenegger lieut...

An impressionist street scene of Koge, Denmark (a market town about 25 miles southwest of Copenhagen), signed at lower right "A Krogh Petersen", and titled below that "Kirkistrad (Church Street) Koge". The unframed 17 7/8" by 20" painting on canvas is sold in as-is condition. There is a ragged puncture at upper left in the tree, and nearly all parts are present except for an area smaller than a pencil eraser. Have this patched and the painting lightly cleaned...

PAIR of pastel on paper drawings of sea cliffs and hills, each signed in pencil at lower right by noted Dorset artist JAMES FRY (1911-1985). These are works of an accomplished artist who has toed the line between abstraction and traditional landscape. Fry has been generating attention in and around the Dorset, England area where he lived and worked. The Cottees auction of Wareham (now Poole) has seen great recent demand for his paintings and drawings, since the artist's death more than thirty...

An antique drawing in ink and watercolor, 4 1/4" by 6 3/4" inside the mat, 11" by 13 1/4" framed, unsigned, featuring a rolling landscape with stand of trees and tiny figures. At left a full hay wagon is pulled by an animal; at center a couple walks together; at right, three others take a break and chat. This could possibly be an American drawing after an English etching. The materials and framing look American, the scene less so. What is certain is that this is an original work and not a pr...

An original watercolor painting, featuring a ceramic geisha, ceramic bird, and poppies in a bowl/vase, apparently unsigned, twentieth century. The work has been faded by sunlight over the years yet remains interesting. Measurements are 9" by 8 1/2" (15 1/2" by 15" in simple wood frame, which has a piece missing at upper extreme left corner). There are reflections at top of several images. Drawing is glued to a black backing sheet at top only (not fully "laid down"). E

THREE unframed paintings on canvas, including a landscape viewed through a window (24" by 36"), a female figure on a balcony (36" by 24"), and a woman reclining on a bed (40" by 30"), one of the works signed at lower right by California-Japanese artist YURI MASON (1920-2000). As only one of the works is signed (and dated 1988), I would like to keep them together, as they were acquired together. There is little information on the artist, who painted in the San Francisco Bay area. She is said t...

A peaceful scene of a quiet creek winding next to a forest, signed at lower right Emily M. Cornwall. An early century blue Philadelphia framer's label has been retained and affixed to the present backing. The 10" by 15 1/4" watercolor (18" by 23" framed) is offered in AS-IS condition. Somehow, over the years, the sky area in the left portion was severely damaged, with complete paper loss in areas especially at far left portion. The right half of the work is in good condition. A prospective ...

Beautiful impressionist pastel drawing of a landscape in California's high desert outside Los Angeles, 12 1/2" by 19", 19 1/2 by 26 1/2" in attractive old gold strip framing (but with no glass), and signed "R W" and dated 1940 at lower right corner. The artist was surely a talent but I am unable to connect the initials to a known artist. Strangely, the work was found "high and dry" in Asbury Park, New Jersey---and evidently the work also spent some time in Chicago on its way east, having been...

A colorful and compelling Orientalist watercolor on paper painting of a man of North Africa or the Middle East in traditional garb, signed lower right E. L. S., (the "L" larger than the other letters), measuring 12 1/2" by 10" (32 cm. by 25 cm.) and 20" by 13 3/4" in modern day simple framing. On the reverse side is a study, in pencil, of feet. There are no watermarks in the paper. This is by an obviously talented artist but without further information I cannot tie it to a listed name. The wo...
