Oil on canvas, 20" by 14 3/4" (29" by 24" as framed) signed at lower left with the signature of well listed Danish artist NILS H. CHRISTIANSEN (1850-1922), the subject a setting sun behind trees in a thinning forest. The artist seems to have been very interested in depicting the effects of light on landscapes, as many paintings seem to include his trademark round sun or moon somewhere in the sky...

Oil on canvas scene of a central Parisian plaza by the Seine in the late 19th century, including an advertising kiosk, horse drawn wagons, and figures dressed in the manner of the times, the Seine and domed building in the background, 20" by 24" (28" by 32" framed), signed at lower right by the popular contemporary painter who signs as "G. SHERMAN"...

An extensive country landscape featuring rolling fields and meadows, the evidence of man including a dirt road, fence posts, and distant house, as chickens forage at center right. The oil on canvas, 22" by 25" work (27" by 30 1/2" framed) is signed at lower left by listed German artist OTTO MARX (1887-1962). There is not a lot of information on the artist but he did produce nicely painted impressionist works of the German countryside. Marx signed his name and dated the painting 1912...

A strong oil on wood portrait of a gentleman sporting a long ponytail, and wearing a large black hat, a ruffled white shirt, a brownish-gray jacket. Cleverly executed to look like the painting is oval and in a mat, in actuality the entire surface is painted and is not a mat.

The condition of this work is excellent, with no issues or restoration. The frame, which is modern, nicely complements this work sight size is 6 1/2" by 4 1/2", with the framed size being 8 3/4" by 7".

A finely painted still life masterpiece, 23" by 28" (31 1/2" by 36 1/2" as framed), circa 1950's, signed at lower left by Hungarian artist ROMEK ARPAD (1883-1960). The work features copper pots and a number of glass vessels, some broken, painted in the artist's signature naturalistic, realistic style. Arpad was born in Budapest and studied at the Academy of Fine Arts there under Ede Bello and Laszlo Hegedus...

Oil on canvas painting of a forest in autumn or possibly winter, 13" by 20" (16" by 23" framed), not signed on front but inscribed on canvas reverse "Hommage reconnaissance a M. Fr. Tompkins/J. Caron/1909". A title also appears there, "Sous Bois en XXXXX" (unreadable). This is a highly impressionistic work by listed Belgian artist JOSEPH CARON (1866-1944). Caron appears to have painted primarily landscapes, almost always with an impressionist hand...

An excellent oil on canvas example of the painting of Spanish artist EDUARDO PISANO (1912-1986), measuring 25" by 21" (31" by 27" in silvery attractive framing/liner). Subject is a clown or other generalized comic figure with a lute/stringed instrument. Pisano is considered a member of the "Spanish School of Paris", along with figures like Clave, Peinado, Emilio Grau Sala, Oscar Dominguez, Pedro Flores, Gines Parra and Manuel Ortiz de Zarata...

Oil on canvas laid on masonite, 14" by 11" and 3 1/2" wide frame, signed at lower right "C. DE VRIES". This is a pleasing work showing a young woman of central or alpine regions of Europe, holding in her hand a typical felt hat of the area, a window at rear letting in natural light that beautifully illuminates the subject. I have researched this name and find one listing that appears to correspond to the signature, one Belgian artist CAMILLE DE VRIES (1854-after 1924)...

Oil on rough weave canvas scene of figures in a hazy landscape, 15" by 30" (20" by 35" framed), signed at lower right by English-born artist who later came to be more closely associated with Ireland, ANTHONY "TONY" KLITZ (1917-2000). This work, dating to 1975 as we see from a reverse copyright stamp of the artist, is rather typical of the artist's style...

Oil on canvas, 12" by 18" (15" by 21" as framed), the subject a subtly rendered impressionist scene of large trees by a wide river, with just scant human activity present in the form of a few figures in a tiny boat in the middle distance, and a structure on the far shore. Executed in a silvery, cool palette of grays, tans and greens, this is a typical work of the well listed Scottish artist ROBERT RUSSELL MACNEE (1880-1952)...

Oil on canvas painting of mountains and a beautiful lake, 20 1/2" by 26 1/2" (28" by 34 1/2" framed), signed at lower right by the listed Hungarian painter MARTON BARABAS (1893-1974). Barabas was born in Hungary and received his initial art training there, before moving on to Munich and Paris for further study. Eventually he established himself in Berlin for many years before moving to Los Angeles in 1958. In 1971 a book, "The Art of Marton Barabas de Markosfalva" was published in that city. ...

A nicely worked oil on canvas, 21" by 29" plus almost 1" wide old frame, the subject an extensive continental European landscape with figures on shore and in a small boat, a dog, wading and resting cows, trees and classic buildings, signed at lower right by artist "O. Kirkman" and dated there 1858. The more one studies this the more detail one sees.
