Born in Antwerp, van Bloemen was the brother of Jan-Frans and Norbert van Bloemen. His master was the battle painter, Simon van Douw. In 1673 van Bloemen was a master in Antwerp, but he did not stay there long. He is believed to have spent 20 years in Rome and it is known that he was working there in 1688...
A highly decorative late 20th century painting after the Dutch 17th through 19th century classic winter landscapes, 33" by 36 1/2" as framed, signed at lower right by artist W. Reynolds. The work is clean and in very nice condition overall. There is some slight crazing at left in the sky, just enough to increase the impression of this being an old painting, and the frame has some light wear that can be touched up...
A very sweet oil on canvas painting of several young ice skaters in Holland in winter, the scene completed by a classic windmill in the left distance and snowy roofs at right. The work is signed at lower right in red "M. Leuty" or "Lenty". I do not see an obvious listed artist that would correspond. Measurements are 22" by 16", and 26" by 20" framed. Despite the European subject matter, the artist could be American; materials used suggest that possibility...
From a high end Southern California estate, a fine oil on canvas laid down on Masonite, 23" by 18 3/4" (27 1/2" by 23 1/2" in late 20th century frame), apparently unsigned, in the style of the renowned 17th century Dutch artists such as Jan de Heem. The details of the various types of flowers are impressive, as are those of the snails, the moth, and the water droplets on the leaves. The more one studies this the more one sees...
A contemporary painting in Old Master style, the subject a Dutch street scene with no less than eight figures, a church in the center background. The unframed 24" by 20" oil on canvas is signed at lower right corner "W. Caufield" (or "Canfield"). Note the attention to detail in the cobblestones and stone buildings (which are snow-dusted). The style derives from classic Dutch Old Masters and 19th century painters such as Cornelis Springer, Adrianus Eversen, and others. Condition is excellent...
A finely painting oil on canvas landscape of a windmill in moonlit landscape, a structure at left with a glowing window, the clouds luminous with the eerie light, and possibly some grazing animals at right, the work apparently UNSIGNED. The detailed meticulous handling suggests an early 19th century date---or possibly even earlier; the work has an Old Master feeling. Measurements are 18" by 24" (21 1/2" by 28" in traditional style old walnut frame with gold fillet)...
Oil on wood panel painting of a Dutch city scene, painted in the 19th century style of artists such as Cornelius Springer, the work 16" by 20" (24" by 28" as nicely framed), signed at lower left "Shone". The work is contemporary though the artist was obviously familiar with the meticulous style of the earlier artists. Painting and frame are in excellent condition.
A striking, traditional, antique, oil on old oak panel painting, with even an Old Master feel, the painting itself 13 1/4" by 15 3/4" (34.3 cm. by 41.3 cm), the scene a landscape dominated by a placid large white dray-type horse (painted with extraordinary sensitivity and skill), a goat at left foreground, and resting cattle in the distance, the remainder of the composition dominated by a sky filled with beautiful clouds, and classic willow trees at right...
Emanuel Glicenstein Romano, 1897(Rome,Italy) - 1984(New York). Portrait of Lady, Oil on Canvas, 25.5" by 33.5", signed, in Silver Leaf Frame, circa 1960-1980. Known for: portrait, figure, still life, murals. Emanuel Romano became a painter, illustrator, muralist and teacher in New York City where from 1944 to 1945 he taught at the City College of New York. One of his murals is in the Klondike Building, Welfare Island, New York...
Oil on canvas painting (18 1/2" by 15", 24" by 20" in later frame) of a canal and old buildings in Amsterdam, a church towering (possibly the medieval Oudekerk) in the distance, signed at lower right by the listed Dutch artist KEES (CORNELIS) TERLOUW (1890-1948). The scene is painted in a very impressionistic style by an artist known for his landscapes of the Netherlands in all seasons, as well as genre scenes and still life...
Oil on canvas painting, unframed, 15" by 23", the subject a traditional farmhouse in spring, surrounded by trees in pink and white blooms, the season's clouds billowing in the sky, and chickens pecking in the yard, apparently fed by a lone figure, at center. The painting is signed at lower left Louis Soonius. I am offering the painting on its decorative merits only as I do not believe it to be by the noted Dutch artist Louis Soonius (1883-1956). (Soonius was a Hague School painter known for hi...
At first glance this appears to be a 17th century Dutch landscape oil on panel by someone like Ruisdael, Hobbema, Cuyp, Van Goyen, or other famous artists of that time and place. Closer examination reveals that this is actually a late 20th century work in that style, signed at lower right by artist J M GRISWOLD. I do not see information on the artist but he or she was clearly familiar with 17th century Dutch art. The work is on masonite and measures 11 3/4" by 16" (17 1/2" by 21 1/2" as frame...
Old impressionist oil on canvas laid on wood board painting of a typical Dutch scene with windmills, boats, and a waterway, 9" by 11 1/4" (13 1/2" by 15 3/4" in 20th century frame). There does appear to be a signature at lower left but despite my best efforts I am unable to determine that name. On the reverse in pencil is written (Pound or Florins? sign) and 5.50, and below that, at the very edge of the panel, appears to be very possibly a name, however it is cut off by the lower edge of the p...
Lovely antique oil signed at extreme lower right corner by the Dutch master artist JAN JACOB COENRAD SPOHLER (1837-1923), the subject a classic canal in summer, the scene including windmills, boats, houses, churches (Utrecht, Leiden?) and tiny figures. The work measures 8 1/2" by 13 1/2" (10 1/2" by 15 1/2" in older 20th century frame). The work is very typical of his paintings, many of which show ice skaters in the winter. Larger works have reached $40,000 at auction in the Netherlands. Spo...
A still life painting of fruit on a table top, executed in the long tradition of hyper-realistic still life painting in the Netherlands, signed at lower right by listed Dutch 20th century artist JAN FREDRIK JOHANNES NAGTEGAAL (1920-2000). This artist is known for his contemporary paintings faithful to the formula of the Dutch masters going back to the 17th century. His still life works, a number of which have appeared at auctions, are known for a high level of detail and realism. Some larger ...
