Oil on masonite painting of industrial dockside scene, 15" by 19" and 1 3/4" of liner and frame, signed at lower left and dated "58". The artist, MARIO LORIETO (1919-2003) was a significant figure in the Uruguayan art scene, having studied in the Taller Torres Garcia (Jose Torres Garcia, the major Uruguayan artist), and with Jose Gurvich, Julio Alpuy, and Augusto Torres. Oil on canvas of a verdant, flower-filled sunny courtyard, 16" by 20" and 1 1/2" wide frame, inscribed at lower left "Para Antonio y Cuca" and signed by the artist CARLOS S. SIEGER and dated 1945. I have researched the name online and elsewhere and cannot seem to come up with a listing, though the artist was skilled. I purchased this art in Miami Beach, so a Latin American origin is probable...

An unframed oil on canvas painting of a dreamy waterfall, the deep and mysterious gorge featuring palm trees and at left a small flower-bedecked modest home, the 24" by 18" work signed at lower right "Carolyn". Condition is excellent, the work needing only a frame. The rendering of the palms reminds a bit of the way Filipino artist Romeo Tabuena painted such scenes.

Oil on canvas painting of a young woman knitting on a grassy slope in a glade, 25" by 18", 32" by 25" framed, signed at lower right in red by a talented, though little-known, apparently Argentine painter who worked in the early years of the twentieth century, A. MORENO DE TORRES. This is a fine work by a very skilled hand. Were it by a better-known artist, the price would be multiples higher...

A naive or self-taught style painting of a colorful hillside neighborhood of Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, known as Rocinha, signed at lower right by the artist "Jonathan", and dated there 27/02/04. The unframed 9 1/2"by 6 1/4" work pictures the Rocinha slum neighborhood. The artist has turned a place of notorious grinding poverty, despair and violence into a beautiful little work of art that transmits only happy thoughts...

Naive painting of peasant figures in traditional clothing, sheep, llamas, birds and snow-capped mountains, signed at lower left by artist Inez Zodqui and titled "ECUADOR" at lower center. The small painting measures only 6" by 8" but there is a lot going on in this small space. The primitive art style is popular with tourists to the region. Condition is excellent. Frame if you wish or hang as-is.

As suggested by the contradictory title "colorful vintage folk art painting....by Brazilian modernist", this is a very unusual, difficult-to-describe, interesting oil on canvas painting of Christ on the cross, the background a complex mix of bright primary color and modernist forms, signed at lower right by artist "Edelweiss". On the stretcher is written apparently in Portuguese, "Cobia alada da guita" or similar, along with the original $1520 USD price...

A most unusual modern painting----oil and sand on canvas, 48" by 32" including the frame, which, painted on all edges, can be considered an integral part of the work. The subject is most impressively complex---abstract yet suggestive of perhaps a central fish, or primitive ethnographic art imagery....all in a controlled palette of gray, muted rust red, white, black, and a touch of yellow...

A rare and powerful painting directly on a rather crude wood panel, unframed, 16 3/4" by 23 3/4", by the important twentieth century Peruvian artist ALICIA BUSTAMANTE VERNAL (1907-1968), featuring a group of native people climbing in the bleak mountain landscape, the forward group carrying a shrouded body for burial. The work is titled on the reverse "El Entierro" (The Interment/Burial"), and is dated there 1954, with additional notation "Ayacucho" (the Peruvian city)...

Small oil on canvas laid on board painting of a man in traditional outfit with distinctive hat. The mid 20th century work is signed illegibly at lower left corner. This would appear to be from Ecuador, or if not there, another Andean nation such as Peru or Bolivia. Measurements are 4" by 3 1/2" (7 1/2" by 7 1/4" as framed, with blue velvet liner). An interesting addition to a small wall or nook.

A large oil on canvas, 49 1/2" by 32 1/2" in thin gold frame, unsigned, titled lower right "SAN GABRIEL", painted circa 1980's, in the so-called "Cuzco School" style of South America. According to the Wikipedia description of the School, Cuzco (Cusco) was considered the first artistic center that systematically taught European artistic techniques in the Americas...

Colorful contemporary Central American or Brazilian landscape painting of a hillside village with figures, animals, tropical vegetation and a church, 7 1/2" by 10 3/4" (15 1/4" by 18 1/2" framed), signed at lower left with what appears as "Mitaki". The work is highly decorative and in excellent, wall-ready condition. Considering the architecture, landscape, and black-appearing tiny figures, I would lean towards the work being of perhaps northeast Brazilian origin, (Natal or Salvador area).

Oil on canvas of two horses eating cut greens with chickens pecking the earth nearby in a clean but slightly rundown curral (farmyard) under bright sunlight and with bright red blossoming tree behind the horses losing some blossoms.
