A colorful oil on canvas of two women and a donkey or horse in a tropical village setting of Haiti, probably executed circa 1960's or 1970's. The little work, 10" by 8", unframed, is signed at bottom center "Mme Brunise", for "Madame Brunise". The "Madame" is interesting as I have not seen that before on a Haitian work...

A quality work, the medium watercolor on a very thin linen type canvas, framed behind glass, 14 1/4" by 18 1/2" (22" by 26" framed), signed at lower right and bearing there a monogram cypher in an oriental art style, by San Diego artist and collector ELSIE STEWART KIMBERLY (1882-1966). There is little information on this talented woman artist, who was evidently most known around the San Diego area...

In the style of famous American abstractionist Sam Francis (1923-1994) is this abstract oil (acrylic?) on canvas "splatter" or "drip" painting, unframed, 25" by 23 1/2", unsigned. The work appears to have some age, to perhaps the 1970's. Note the width of the stretcher (almost two inches). The painting is very clean and would make a smashing decorative work for the most modern of interiors...

A small painting on canvas, 12" by 9" (15" by 12" framed) titled on reverse "Hermit Home", by listed artist GEORGE EUGENE SCHROEDER (1865-1935). The scene is a modest rustic cabin in a forest clearing. The artist signed at lower right and again on reverse, wrote his name and "Heyburn, IDA". Heyburn is in the southern part of the state, between Twin Falls and Pocatello, on the Snake River...

A finely painted work on canvas, 16" by 20", unframed, signed at lower left and dated there "60" or "69" by the Scottish-born artist who worked much of his life in England, JOHN PETTIE (1839-1893). The scene is a lavishly appointed bedroom chamber fit for a castle or manor house, a lone female figure at right and her faithful black dog adding an element of interest and mystery...

Oil on canvas, 19" by 27" (25" by 32 1/2" framed), signed in red at lower right L. (LUIGI) PAPALUCA. Papaluca is THE SON OF an artist who died in 1934, known for his depictions of the great sailing ships; works by the son, who emigrated to the United States, are very decorative and popular among collectors of marine art. The painting is in good condition with the exception of several lightly abraded areas, seen in the photos in the sails at left (and one at right portion of sails)...

A beautifully painted oil on Masonite work featuring the peak autumn color in the mountains, likely the Laurentians north of Montreal. The artist is VIVIAN WALKER (1903-1994), who signed her name in the wet paint, at lower left. Walker was born in Hawkesbury, Ontario. She received art training in the Montreal area including at the Ecole des Beaux Arts. She was a student of Adam Sherriff Scott and E. Stanley Turnbull (the latter, in New York)...

Large horizontal format painting of Paris street scene with the classic buildings, kiosk, book stalls, and circa 1960 automobiles, signed at lower right illegibly (and there are some initials on the tacking edge as well as something written on the back of the canvas). Old circa 1950 painting on board of the majestic Grand Canyon in Arizona, apparently unsigned, measuring 17 3/4" by 22", plus pleasingly old patterned frame, 1 3/4" wide on a side. The artist had talent but the work is also fairly primitive, in a charming way. A lot of effort went into painting this. I would almost describe it as folk art. Materials suggest a late 1940's or early 1950's age. There's some wear on the frame especially at lower right corner...

A 19th century English oil on canvas painting, 23" by 36", (offered unframed, even if the inappropriate style frame shows in the images), apparently unsigned, the subject the Edinburgh to London Royal Mail coach pulled by four horses, as it passes through a town. The work is in the style made famous by English artist Charles Cooper Henderson (1803-1877). The handsome coach, staffed by two coachmen, is shown in considerable detail...

A vintage mid century oil on board or oil on canvasboard painting of a dirt track in the Arizona desert, the landscape filled with the classic saguaro cacti, and at right a yellow flowering tree, causing the painting to be titled "Lluvia de Oro Tree" ("Shower of Gold") on the backing paper, where the artist, LOUIS ELMORE SMITH, also dated it April 1961. He signed it on the lower right corner. Painting and frame are in excellent vintage condition. This reminds of a hike in Sabino Canyon outsi...

A large (32" by 44" as framed) acrylic on heavy canvas, the subject a Victorian gingerbread-style Key West house with luxuriant tropical foliage in the foreground, signed at lower right and dated 1999 at lower right, by noted American contemporary artist JEANETTE CHUPACK. The work is titled on reverse affixed tag "Key West Porch Garden", and the original $4,300 price is written nearby. That information is repeated on the stretcher itself, and interestingly, crossed out on the stretcher, is "Tu...

**PAINTING HAS ACQUIRED DAMAGE SINCE PHOTOS WERE TAKEN** Contact me first. An historically interesting and significant oil painting of an early street scene in Los Angeles' small, historical Chinatown, circa 1930's, 30" by 38", unframed, signed at lower left by listed Southern California artist BERTHA TOWNSEND COLER (1865-1948). A really nicely painted oil on canvas landscape of a whitewashed, red-roofed farmhouse, a lane leading up to it, a dog, several tiny figures and a large feathery tree completing the scene, 13" by 16 3/4" (18 1/2" by 22 1/4" as framed), signed at lower right "G Zannoni" and dated below that with what appears as an 1860's date (partly under the frame, hard to see). The work may look slightly primitive close up but when viewed from normal viewing distance it all comes together as intended. The gr...

A PAIR of oil on canvas paintings of a younger man, each 33" by 24 3/4", unsigned, circa late 20th century. The pair is striking in that one is painted in monochromatic style, the other in natural color. Placed together, they make for a most interesting set. Condition is generally good with a few minor flaws they have acquired, including light abrasions, light soiling in places, a tiny tiny puncture, etc. Speckles in hair on colored painting are just a light effect. A light cleaning and som...

A circa 1910 small oil on canvas landscape of a forest pond, signed at lower right "O. Sch". This 3 1/2" by 5 1/2" work (9 1/2" by 11 1/2" framed) came from a local family of German heritage. Their art, some of which I acquired, came with the family from the old country. This work has some condition issues, as the canvas over the decades has buckled, with sharp horizontal roughly parallel "ridges" now apparent, as well as craquelure. The canvas was laid years ago on a panel and evidently it h...

Oil on canvas painting of a white bench in a park or garden, the sun dappled vegetation depicted in colorful palette of purple, yellow, and green, signed at lower right by Southern California contemporary artist PATRICIA SHILLING-STEWART. The work measures 16" by 20" (20" by 23 1/2" in shiny white laminate frame). There is some information on the artist online; she is based in Los Alamitos near Long Beach, and paints flowers, aquariums and other colorful subject matter, many of the original wo...
