I cannot make out the signature, and do not know if it be simply by an amateur of considerable talent, or perhaps, by a known artist? The signature most definitely has a professional look to it.

19th Century American School 1800-1899 American Artists This is an original oil on tin painting of a young woman. It is apparently unsigned and so we are calling this 19th century American School. The painting measures 8X7 inches, it came to us in a period gilt frame which measures 12 1/2X11 1/2 inches. Expertly painted, this is a fine example of 19th century American portraiture.

A large, impressive watercolor of the American Southwest, featuring a temporary water course in the otherwise arid classic landscape (as one would see a flash flood after a sudden summer monsoon cloudburst) with reddish butte at center. The work is signed at lower right "R. Rucker" and dated there 1997. Measurements are 20 1/2" by 27 3/4" (31 1/2" by 38" in white laminate style frame). On reverse slip of paper, perhaps by the artist, is written "A River Runs Through It" (!!!)...

PIERREL. I do not see a formal "listing" for the artist, although I have encountered other works by this talented hand. An antique watercolor landscape (17 1/2" by 29 1/2", and 25 1/2" by 37 1/2" framed) featuring a peaceful scene of a house on a northeastern lake, a sail boat lazily floating by, signed lower right and dated there 1889 by the well known American 19th century painter EDMUND DARCH LEWIS (1835-1910). The artist painted from Maryland to Maine, visited Cuba and apparently Italy, and even apparently spent a short time on the Pacific coast at Monterey, California...

Highly impressionist oil on canvas painting in a lovely long horizontal format, 16" by 32" (29" by 45" framed), signed at lower right by noted listed artist JOHANNES SCHIEFER (1896-1979). The work is titled "Mojave" on an old label affixed to the frame. Schiefer was born in The Netherlands. After study in Paris, he painted in southern France and in Italy for a time, before coming to the United States, where he settled in Southampton, New York...

A circa 1900 painting of two ladies who have apparently come to see the local priest in a courtyard, they pleading their case vigorously. The priest is accompanied by a sleeping cat. The table top with its interesting details is beautifully painted. The work, on canvas (relined), is signed at lower right "A. CALCAGNA"...

A vintage watercolor of two girls seated on rocks at the seashore, signed at lower left by artist Frank Lockwood and dated there 1945. The piece measures " by " and " by " as framed. All photos were taken through the detail-dulling non-glare glass that was popular in the sixties and seventies. I see a listing for a Frank Lockwood as photographer but no convincing listing for a painter by that name.

Oil on canvas laid on board painting, circa 1950, titled in artist hand on reverse "The Rail Fence", 13 1/2" by 17" (17 1/2" by 21" framed) signed at lower right by the artist MYRON CHESTER NUTTING (1890-1972). Nutting was born in Nevada. He became known in California for landscape and portrait works. He and his wife spent time painting in Cambria on the scenic Central Coast in 1939 and again from 1953-1955. Apparently he also spent time in Texas...

A PAIR of unframed oil on canvas works, one a scene of coastal cliffs and waves, 12" by 12", the other featuring a small lake or pond, 11" by 14" (both unframed). They are each signed by the artist, one M. Mahmoudi. I have not located information on the obviously talented artist, who is likely Californian; found in Los Angeles. Condition is excellent. What appear as white speckles in some images are reflections off the varnish and canvas weave.
