A Japanese woodblock three-part print showing a festival by a river or lake with boats, people in the water, a review stand (?) and numerous people, some with banners. The signature is for Hiroshige III and the censor’s seals for 1855. The paper is laid. Each sheet is approx. 14 5/8 x 9 7/8 inches (35.5 x 25 cm).

Condition: good with one crease to the lower left corner of the middle sheet and bends from being corner mounted with photo corners. Otherwise clean and crisp...

Over the course of his print-making life, Haku Maki often depicted the kanji for Man, Woman, and Child. This is a “man” from 1979; it measures 9.5in W x 10.75in H and numbers 42 of a total edition of 204.

This is a lithograph of a partially nude, seated young woman, 20" by 17 1/4" (30" by 27 1/2" as framed), signed in pencil at lower right and numbered 244/300 at lower left, by the noted 20th century American artist RAPHAEL SOYER (1899-1987). Soyer, one of several brothers (the others being Isaac and Moses) who became significant figures in American art during the WPA and mid century period, became known for his sensitive studies of human figures in urban settings and interiors...

A circa 18th century engraving of stone arch bridge over a river, more than likely in Italy, 10 3/8" by 15 7/8" inside the ornately drawn mat and 16 1/2" by 22 1/2" in a contemporary distressed style complementary silvery-colored frame. The work is not visibly signed. A google reverse image search did not turn up a matching image...

In the last year of Maki’s life, Daniel Tretiak tells us, he was ill but continued to work. He did lithographs on shikishi board, which was a hard board covered in white rice paper. The back was yellow with a small design in gold and the whole board is gold-edged. Poem 8B is one of those works done in the 1999-2000 period.

A circa 1930 colorful, beautiful, accomplished woodblock print of a Christmas cactus, by Austrian-born artist HUGO NOSKE (1886-1960). Noske was born in Vienna and was a very talented artist, perhaps best known today for the technically accomplished, wonderful woodblock prints of floral subjects, often specifically cacti or Christmas cacti, on tissue-like Japan paper. One of a number of Whistler lithographs I am offering: "Portrait of Stephane Mallarme", 1892-93, measuring 3 1/2" by 2 3/4", mounted with hinges at top corners and in a protective sleeve. A label of Davidson Galleries, Seattle remains with the print. There are several condition issues. There is a jagged paper tear of about 1" at upper left, extending roughly down the level of his ear, though, well to the left of it, in the unprinted area...

Poem 70-19 is one of the fairly small group of deep blue prints that Maki made. This one is 5.75 in W x 8.5in H and created in 1970. It is in good condition, with some toning due to its once having been framed.

This is a wall-ready unusually fresh and clean lithograph, hand colored, titled "Millard Fillmore/Whig Candidate for Vice President", by New York competitors to Nathaniel Currier, J. Baillie and Company. The coloring is green in the curtains and just a hint of blush on the cheeks. Size is 13" by 9" inside the double mat.
