These ronin, the loyal retainers, had been Samurai in the service of Lord Asano when he was obligated to commit seppuku for drawing his sword at the Palace of the Shogun. He was provoked to drawing by many insults from Kira Yoshinaka...

An original 19th century hand-colored lithograph print, "Tallulah Falls--Georgia", by the noted Currier & Ives firm, unframed, the sheet 10" by 13 3/4". Tallulah Falls is a scenic location in far northeast Georgia's mountains, now a part of Tallulah Gorge State Park. This print retains its rich hand coloring. Most of the condition issues, commonly encountered with old Currier prints, are contained within the margins...

An etching featuring cattle driven through a wood in a storm, 3 1/2" by 5 1/2" inside the mat, 8 1/2" by 10 1/2" in interesting simple wood frame with hand cut design, the work by noted American artist PETER MORAN (1841-1914). The title is "Showery Weather", and the print was issued in the year 1889. Moran was the youngest of the well-known Moran brothers of American art (Thomas, and Edward). He was born in England and was in the United States by 1844...

Original Japanese woodblock print by Utagawa Hiroshige (Hiroshige II), from his series "One Hundred Famous Views in the Various Provinces (Shokoku meisho hyakkei)", circa 1860. This vertical oban is signed Hiroshige ga. Published by Uoya Eikishi. Beautiful color and condition. Never framed. A rare print from a series partially based on Hiroshige I's series (Famous Views of the 60-odd Provinces). This particular view by his protege is not based on a Hiroshige I work.

Alphonse Legros 1837-1911 French This is a fine large etching by French artist Alphonse Legros. The title is; Le Retour du Bois (Return from the Woods), Created circa 1880's. This was part of his series known as Death and the Wood cutter. This pencil signed impression measures 9 1/4X14 inches. Legros was a well known founder of the etching revival in France. This is one of his largest compositions. This image is in the collections of many museums through out the world...

Nicely framed antique print. Light foxing but more pronounced on the edges. The frame measures 13" x 18". Not examined out of frame-sold as is. "In the French engraving Le Lever after Freudenberg, of the 1780s (illustration, right), gentle social criticism is levelled at the lady of the court; that she slept without unlacing her stays, apparently, perhaps can be seen as artistic licence...

Chromolithograph print of jockeys on their mounts in a race, circa mid 19th century, 13" by 19" (15" by 21" in modern day dark frame), signed in the image by the noted British Vanity Fair magazine caricature and sporting artist LIBERIO PROSPERI (1854-1928), who signed as "Lib". The print is framed without mat and has some condition issues, including two vertical folding creases, and a damage area at lower center, below the horse's leg (see close up of that)...

Samuel Palmer 1805-1881 British This is an original etching by British artist Samuel Palmer. The title is "The Early Ploughman" It was created in 1861. The image measures 5 1/4X9 7/8 inches. THis is the 6th state of eight. Printed on a medium weight laid type paper. Partial watermark visible upper left. This image appears in the Palmer catalog as image number VII.

A Hand Colored Botanical Print Portraying Gladiolas. The Artist is the Victorian Jane Webb Loudon (1807-1858), and the Print is from the book “The Ladies Flower Garden of Ornamental Bulbous Plants” (plate 12), published in 1841 by Day and Haghe London, Lithographer to Queen Victoria. The print is triple matted and elegantly framed. Dimensions; 19.5" x 18". Excellent condition. See also item number 601985 (1542B).

Audubon was assisted by his son John Woodhouse Audubon, and the printing was by J. T. Bowen of Philadelphia...

This is a rare original mezzotint by British artist, Sir Francis Seymour Haden. The title of this work is: "Harlech No II", it was created and printed in 1880. A combination of mezzotint, etching and drypoint, hand signed in pencil lower left border. This image appears in the Schneiderman catalog as image number 197. The image measures 8X11 3/4 inches. This is the V state of V.. This is a rarely seen image by Haden. Richly inked and printed.
