In the last year of Maki’s life, Daniel Tretiak tells us, he was ill but continued to work. He did lithographs on shikishi board, which was a hard board covered in white rice paper. The back was yellow with a small design in gold and the whole board is gold-edged. Poem 8B is one of those works done in the 1999-2000 period.

This is a lithograph of a partially nude, seated young woman, 20" by 17 1/4" (30" by 27 1/2" as framed), signed in pencil at lower right and numbered 244/300 at lower left, by the noted 20th century American artist RAPHAEL SOYER (1899-1987). Soyer, one of several brothers (the others being Isaac and Moses) who became significant figures in American art during the WPA and mid century period, became known for his sensitive studies of human figures in urban settings and interiors...

One of a number of Whistler lithographs I am offering: "Firelight: Joseph Pennell No. 1", 1896, sheet approximately measuring 13 3/4" by 10 1/4", currently in a mat, taped at top edge, though not laid down, unframed. Generally clean, with some imperfections along edges. Whistler created some 179 lithographs in his career, in addition to more graphic art as etchings, along with paintings, pastels, and watercolor...

This is a gem of southeastern American art, a pencil signed lithograph titled "Hammock Ponds", dating to 1945. Measuring 7 7/8" by 10 7/8" inside the mat (17" by 19" as framed), this was executed by a talented and increasingly sought after Florida artist, BUELL WHITEHEAD (1919-1993). A monograph on the subject has just been published by Ron Newsom of Florida, a friend and neighbor of the artist in his later years...

This is a 32 1/4" by 28 1/2" poster from California's "The Upstairs Gallery", showing one of Max Papart's colorful, cubist-inspired images, but as a bonus, there is an ORIGINAL FELT TIP PEN DRAWING by the artist filling the lower right corner, AND I am including a withdrawn library copy of the 1984 first English true monograph on the artist, by Roger Green. This monograph includes an original lithograph created just for the book...

This is a monotype (generally considered an original work, the artist creating the art on a glass or metal surface which is then pressed against paper to create the final image---usually only one impression is made, so while some consider this a print, others might feel it is unique work). The artist, Pat Berger of Los Angeles (signed in pencil in margin and label on reverse) has been an active member of the art community in Southern California for many years...

Rare and nostalgic chromolithograph entitled Yuletide in Canada shows a boy pushing a girl in a sled bedecked with mistletoe. The frame , almost as important as the image, has a faux mahogany finish with gold liner, and is quite old. The back is thin wood. The condition of the print appears good with a couple of foxing spots at the bottom, but should be rematted, preferably using the current framing, as it is rather discolored...

The print (8 1/2" by 9 3/4" inside the mat, 15" by 20" as framed) is a very detailed etching typical of the meticulous style of the artist, renowned for his prolific printmaking. Popular and rare images by the artist, of New York City scenes, can sell for five figures. He traveled widely in Europe and architecture, especially Gothic architecture, especially revered by the artist, was a favored subject. This print is of a Gothic style building in Princeton, New Jersey...
