Irving Amen's works are most commonly prints, as he is considered a master print maker in woodblock, etching, lithography and silk screen; this example appears to be etching or etching with aquatint. He also executed oils and acrylics in the course of a long career. This work, titled at lower left in pencil "Love & Peace" and numbered there 31/200 examples, is signed in pencil at lower right. ONE OF A NUMBER BY THE ARTIST IN MY SHOP**This is a small etching (the sheet 4 7/8" by 6 1/2" inside the reddish mat, 9 1/2" by 11" framed), pencil signed at lower right by the noted California artist HARRIET GENE ROUDEBUSH (1908-1998), and titled at lower left margin "Cypress Trees at the Beach". The scene is dominated by an old, impressive coast cypress tree with lots of character, its sheltering branches framing more distant offshore rock and a church with twin steeples...

A lithograph titled in pencil in margin at lower left "Algerian Caravan", and pencil signed and numbered at lower right margin, by the noted western Michigan (Muskegon area) artist WILFRED "WALLY" BERG (1908-2002). Measurements are 15 1/2" by 19 1/2". The complex image features a caravan of camels and burros, led by their handlers, descending a steep mountain trail to a valley in Algeria, where the artist served during the Second World War...

Pencil signed at lower right, numbered 201/250 at lower left, is this circa 1975 modern print by the noted listed Israeli-born (Haifa), French artist who also worked in America, NISSAN ENGEL (1931-). The work measures 20" by 15" in its silvery metallic framing. The colors do not seem to be faded, though there is rippling in the paper visible in most of the margins, likely from exposure to a damp environment. There is no mold however...

**ONE OF TWO EXAMPLES IN MY SHOP; THE OTHER IN BETTER CONDITION AND FRAMED** Lithograph on paper laid on thin board, 31 1/2" by 20 5/8", printed for the summer 1977 Galerie Claude Bernard exhibition of recent paintings by the important Ecole de Paris (School of Paris) abstractionist and colorist MAURICE ESTEVE (1904-2001). The poster, produced by the famous French house of lithography Mourlot (seen at bottom) was likely produced in an edition of under 2000 examples...

A serigraph print of three dimensional shapes in the style of 1960's "Op Art", hand signed at lower right by artist Martha Jacobsen and titled at lower left "Sea Dream". The work to the unaided eye appears to be an original drawing but magnification reveals the tell-tale clues to the silkscreen process. The black paper sheet measures 27 1/2" by 21 1/2" and is unframed (there is 1/8" Plexi sheet that protects it)...

Old print of what I believe are camellias, 10 1/2" by 8 1/2" inside the mat with hand-drawn outlines, 15 1/4" by 13" in what is now (but might not have been originally) a convincingly distressed gold frame, with hand coloring delicately applied. At upper right near the mat is "Pl." and a number so this was no doubt a plate from a book on botany. The item was probably framed in the early 1960's. There is some water staining of the very lowest portion of the mat...

Two fine engravings of Mount Vernon, and the White House, each framed and measuring 6 3/4" by 8 3/4". These appear to be the same images that have appeared on US currency in the past, and the very high quality type of printing (intaglio?) is the same process. These were produced by the Bureau of Engraving and Printing, either as printing proofs, or perhaps as official souvenirs to be sold in a gift shop setting----the Bureau's name is printed at the bottom of each...

The work, 4 1/4" by 5 3/4" inside the mat opening (8" by 10" simply framed) does NOT appear to be by the famous American artist John LaFarge (1835-1910), though a previous owner wrote on the backing information suggesting that it is by that known artist. It might be difficult to ascertain the identity of the John LaFarge who signed this; John La Farge's youngest son, John La Farge Jr...
