Magnificent 19th Century standing Mandalay Buddha, wood with lacquer patina and gilding, standing on a lotus flower socle. The slender body wears an elaborate monk's garment. Fine workmanship including a beautiful turquoise headband (rarely found) and silver colored glass inlays on the borders of the flowing robe and the lotus pedestal. The Buddhas's left hand clasps his robe, the right one holds a myrobalan fruit. Very good condition considering the age...

This is a special form of protective Buddha from Burma- "Lotus Buddha". Considered good luck, and to be protective-especially from fire. Often with small "bumps" on the joints (knees, elbows, hips etc). I believe this one is a genuine early one (150 to 200 years) carved out of teak and coated with layers of lacquer.. Very fine face- s 10 1/2 inches tall x 6 inches across x 4 1/2 inches deep.
Best of Northern Thai Sculpture. Measures 16 1/2 inches tall x 10 inches across x 6 inches deep. 15/16thC. Smile sweet as candy, only won't rot your teeth- and melt in your heart. Large exquisite example of its type.
A very fine example. An unusual type- not the usual Shan, Mandalay, or Mon. Unsure exactly what tribal group this is from, but it has one of the nicest faces I have seen on a Burmese Buddha in some time.
Measurements: 9 inches tall, 11 1/8 inches on custom stand

Masterpiece!- Pre-10th C "Buddha as a Prince" from area north of India, and likely dating from somewhere between the 5th and 10th centuries, from a small kingdom Himalayan Kingdom that no longer exists.
