Stunning tall pair of Japanese rabbits with a rich bronze patina over metal. Very heavy, they have the weight of solid bronze and the underlying metal may possibly be white bronze. A terrific decorator item, they are in very good condition with only minor abrasions underneath. Standing rabbit measures 9.75 inches high and 9" long. Reclining rabbit measures 9.5" at ear tip and 11" long. Dates 2nd half 20th C

The artist initialed this piece" N 4 "in his usual incised way. Size l a bit over 3.5" by 1.5" high there is a slight chip to one edge of its beak as seen in pictures. This is from a very rare group of early miniature pieces most all were initialed in this way...

A fine bronze animalier sculpture by Ferdinand Pautrot (1832-74). The figure represents a pair of songbirds, one of which has caught a fly in its mouth. The other bird appears to be contemplating the possibility of wresting the insect from his companion. Both birds are perched on the rocky ground typical of Pautrot's work. An upright flowering plant appears at one end of the composition. Along with Mène and Moigniez, Pautrot was considered the be France's finest sculptor of animal figures...

Carl Milles dominated the Swedish art world. He received many public commissions in Sweden and abroad. He was a monumental sculptor who received many public art commissions at a time when many cities expanded and were modernised.

Original bronze sculpture by Constance Freedman (English, 1928-1982). This sculpture is signed "C. Freedman". It measures approximately 6" long. It stands on a black enameled wood base which bears a brass plaque with the name of the artist and the title of the piece. Provenance: directly from the artist's nephew. Constance Freedman was an associate of the Royal Society of British Sculptors (ARBS). Her works have sold in the major auction houses, and she is listed in all the usual databases...
