A real virtuoso tour de force carving, with details from both Hindu and animist beliefs woven together. this is most likely from the second quarter of the twentieth century.

The iconography of this figure is unknown, however the mask-like face is reminiscent of Citipati masks, leading me to think that this figure possibly has some association with the Citipati ceremonies.

A rare 16th Century AVA Period Limestone Head of Buddha (Burma 1287 - 1752) with sweeping eyebrows and downcast eyes, typical for the Ava period-style, well modeled lips and elongated ears. Carved in high relief as most likely originally set against a back slab. Condition: good except one area of left cheek next to ear shows a little concussion as well as a spot on top of head. This head has been nicely mounted on a black stand. Size: H. 17cm x W. 12cm x D. 10cm, excluding stand.

Interesting personal shrine couple from the Lobi ethnic group, Burkina Faso/Cote d'Ivoire. Both figures are wood, heights 10 1/4" and 8". The larger figure is missing the end of one arm, otherwise both are in excellent condition with a dry patina and high point gloss from handling. The larger figure has 2 sets of arms, one extended and one hugging the body. The smaller figure has one set of arms hugging the body and a third arm, extended.
