This is a Bust of the VIRGIN OF MONTSERRAT ~ Patroness of Catalonia, Spain. It measures about 12 1/2" X 7" X 16 3/4" ( 31.9 cm X 17.9 cm X 42.7 cm ). There is a sticker in the back that reads Arte Religioso Palomeque, Arenal 17, Madrid.

SPECIAL and rare- large and very heavy- authentic Ming dynasty Buddha carved out of a "black jade" or other very hard black stone. Carved with old type tools with heavy pitting from centuries of time. Wear consistent with age. Minor expectable roughness to some edges. A very slight bit of white stone shows at the very edges *when examined carefully and closely) where they sought to maximize the limits of the stone. Masterful carving. Looks smoother and shinier in person...

Alexander Ney Russian American contemporary sculptor "Running Tiger" mid 1970s incised brown clay with a holes under side for mounting to a base, base not included. Small Chewa mask resembling a Cheetah. Wood with native pigments, length 7". Excellent condition. Ex. Dave Deroche, San Francisco. The Chewa are a Bantu people, and the largest ethnic group in Malawi. Their first kingdom was established somewhere around 1500. They had very early trade contact with the Portuguese. Primarily an agricultural peoples, they are matrilineal and known for their extensive masquerades and numerous secret societies. Mask comes mounted on a custom base.

This is a beautiful cast bronze sculpture of an elephant by American sculptor W.Hicksons-it is signed with artists monogram WH-also the foundry-the famous Roman Bronze Works Inc-this number 4 of an edition of 12-this is also indicated on the bronze--casting and modeling are superb-surface is textured to indicate the rough elephants hide-only one ear and three legs-this minimalist art at its best--solid casting-no condition problems-9.5 inches high--heavy with nice patina
