Prosper Lecourtier (French, 1855-1924)
Bronze sculpture, signed.
Lecourtier was born at Grimilly in 1855 and studied under Fremiet and Coutan. He exhibited at the Paris Salons and was awarded medals in 1879, 1880, 1900 and 1902. He also won a bronze medal at the Exposition Universalle in 1900.
Lecourtier specialized in animal bronzes and is represented in the Provins Museum and the Tourcoing Museum...

This wonderful carved oak panel originally hung behind the bar in "The Jockey Club" in Washington, DC, and depicts not only a fox hunt but numerous other vignettes typical of English country life of the late 18th and early 19th century. It was probably an overmantle - part of the wall paneling of a room.
