Contemporary jadeite carving of a fairy spirit named Liu-Hai. His right hand is holding a three legged frog called ¡°Chan¡±; a string of clouds extends from Chan¡¯s mouth. On the back of the carving is a large fan and on the top of the fan sits a lucky bat. Very interesting carving in good condition.

Montol figure, Nigeria. Wood, height 19 3/4". Excellent condition, glossy, darkened patina. Slight restoration to one hand. Figures such as this, which lack the usual accumulated patina seen on the men's Komtin, or healing, society figures, were most often hung in the yam houses as guardians.
Sensitively carved Himalayan Middle Hills guardian figure, Nepal. Wood with thick, encrusted sacrificial patina, height 14". Beautiful example of these praying guardians.

Himalayan Shaman's Phurba, probably Middle Hills region, Nepal. Wood with traces of kaolin, height 11 3/4". Excellent condition. A real virtuoso tour de force carving, with details from both Hindu and animist beliefs woven together. this is most likely from the second quarter of the twentieth century.
