This is a special form of protective Buddha from Burma- "Lotus Buddha". Considered good luck, and to be protective-especially from fire. Often with small "bumps" on the joints (knees, elbows, hips etc). I believe this one is a genuine early one (150 to 200 years) carved out of teak and coated with layers of lacquer.. Very fine face- s 10 1/2 inches tall x 6 inches across x 4 1/2 inches deep.

This sculpture of an African American man is beautifully sculpted, in a style reminiscent of early 20th century artists who were inspired by the stylized forms of African traditional art.
Good size, it measures 10 1/2" high, and the base is 6 3/4" in diameter, and is a heavy wood, possibly maple or walnut.
There is a very dark finish, some of which has been cleaned off, and in areas where it was handled, there is wear to the finish.
