The image is titled: The Walls of Miraflores Lock, 1912. The image measures 18 1/2X24 3/4 inches, on a Fabiano watermarked laid type paper which measures 20 1/2X25 1/2 inches.

The work likely dates to about the first quarter of the 20th century or possibly last years of the 19th. The vertical format would complement a narrow small wall. This is a fine 1919 work featuring roses and their stems and leaves, signed at right center by artist A. E. DALE and dated there 1919. I do not see a listing for this obviously talented artist. The painting, 17" by 13" inside the mat and 23" by 20" framed, is in amazingly fresh condition considering it was painted nearly 100 years ago. The paper is not yellowed and there is no foxing. The frame is contemporary and in excellent condition...

This work needs some TLC, due to a large rip, unstable and missing paint, and grime......a vintage late 19th century/early 20th century work on canvas, 18" by 30", unframed, apparently unsigned, the subject one of the volcanoes of the Pacific Northwest. The painting should be saved for posterity, but for that to happen, it will require relining, cleaning and inpainting by a professional restorer. If you are a restorer yourself, this would be an ideal acquisition.
