Reminiscent of some Scandinavian pieces from the 1960s, this more modern version of the cattail pin features two freshwater pearls. The stems are gold-filled wires flattened at the top to secure the pearls. The back shows an embossed maker’s mark of a tree in a circle; there is an incised copyright mark with the date 1993 and other hand-markings that include an ST, possibly for sterling (the leaves test as sterling). It measures 3 1/8 inches long by 5/8 inch wide.

A charmer! This whimsical bug looks like he has a sense of humor. American designer Rick Shelley created him in pewter and colorful glass beads. The wings move slightly and look like mother of pearl.
