Around 1960 Haku Maki probably did the Ox as a woodblock print. He was then a young artist in Tokyo. He may have done some OX images before Michener did his now well known book, but probably not many: 510 were used in the book The Modern Japanese Print". The prints of Japanese artists included in the book are large-ish, it is not embossed...
From northern Canada's Inuit native people, comes this 4" by 2 1/4" by 1 1/2" light greenish soapstone carving of what appears to be a tuskless walrus, weighing 7 ounces. There is the official original label in black and white on the bottom, with "Canada Eskimo Art" and an image of a stylized igloo. These carvings are often signed in syllabics or in English lettering but I do not see any such signature on this piece. There are no chips, nor cracks...

Late in life he. circa 1999, Japanese master printmaker, Haku Maki, did this shikishiban print It is called Z1 - 12 (WAZA); 7.25'' x 8.25''; Shikishiban is a nearly square format. Shikishiban are often mounted on a thick, light cardboard. Japanese people like to give them as presents. The print is in the US and will be shipped fiom there.
A hard heavy wood block looks like mannequin-head. Probably, It was used as anvil or work bench something.
It has a couple of crack and lack as seen.

A pair of "Ashimoto andon (foot lantern) made of cedar board, bamboo and washi (Japanese hand-made paper). The paper is replaced from shoji-gami (white paper for paper screen) to recycled washi which was a record book of a merchant in late Edo period. Washi is made from paper mulberry bark and very strong. With a carton box for a pair. 20th century. In excellent condition. 18cm x 18cm x 47cm (with a handle).
Own the art that inspired Picasso and so many other 20th century artists........the sculpture originating in Africa. This is a later 20th century hand-made piece. Note the painted eyebrow area, the drilled rows of holes, and the interesting surface and color. I don't know the area of the continent from which this came but I suppose a specialist collector could tell immediately. It's a very interesting and decorative piece for the home.
