A small (5 3/4" by 4 3/4" framed) printed poem titled "Mother Dear", with a sentimental message of the period, circa early 1930's. The gold paint and faint color at bottom appear to be hand-applied. On reverse is written in pencil "Billy/May 13 1934", and an old period framer's label from downtown Los Angeles adds further charm. A sweet item.
Handpainted garden ornament in the form of Popeye. Painted on three-ply wood with an iron stake, he's ready to stand at attention in your spinach patch!
Origin: American, circa 1930's. Excellent condition; all original paint; a little flaking at the edge of his pipe. 23" tall.
Measuring 15.75 inches long by 4 inches in height, this metal, circa 1930s, brown and yellow, French advertising sign reads:
"Defense de Fumer..sans Microphosphate Schloesing."
Translated to English, it literally means "No Smoking without Schloesing Microphosphate", clearly an advertisement for a chemical product made by the Schloesing Company.
Certainly a conversation piece in very good condition with the expected mild and non-substantial wear with minor rust here and there to the pain...

This is a very unique item........NOT a print! It is an original drawing in pastel and gouache on a soft old board, measuring 40" by 30" extreme dimensions. The subject is a lovely young Gloria Swanson in a classic 20's 'do, probably created for some kind of advertising purpose like a lobby card, poster, etc., although I haven't found any printed item corresponding to this particular work (though I haven't looked exhaustively)...
This bag looks like it's made of bakelite, but it doesn't test as such. I went and learned a lot about early plastics from Andrea DeNoto's book, " Art Plastic," and the best I can come up with is Thermoset Phenolic Resin. That said, whatever the material, this is an extraordinary bag in extraordinary condition.
Except for some light surface wear on the back side of the clutch, the bag seems perfect...
