Here is another Florentine purse that measures 8-3/4" (l) x 7" (w) closed. The purse is embossed on both sides. The leather handles show modest wear.

The compact is accented with carved natural jadeite jade and small diamonds. The measurements of the compact box are 54 mm x 54mm x 10mm. Box is in very good antique condition. Weight is 96.75 grams. No hallmarks.

Opening this gem reveals a mirror and a heavily filigreed lid to the interior compartment which contains powder and a puff. Superbly crafted and with no damage or restoration, the compact measures 3 1/4" by 2 7/8", and is 1/2" thick.

This bag looks like it's made of bakelite, but it doesn't test as such. I went and learned a lot about early plastics from Andrea DeNoto's book, " Art Plastic," and the best I can come up with is Thermoset Phenolic Resin. That said, whatever the material, this is an extraordinary bag in extraordinary condition.
Except for some light surface wear on the back side of the clutch, the bag seems perfect...

A vintage unsigned chocolate brown coloured natural alligator purse c1940s-50s.
