A grouping of 5 hard to classify Neanderthal multi-tools from Fontmaure, France. Jasper, generally excellent condition with a few minor chips missing. Legal surface finds, heights between 2" and 2 1/2". Very sculptural group on some beautiful examples of Fontmaure jasper. A little bit of everything here- scraper edges, burins, notches. In the photo the 2nd, 3rd and 5th from the left are all flakes tools, the 1st and 4th from the left are partial bifacially worked tools...

3 exceptionally fine Neanderthal multi-tools on irregular Levallois flakes. Jasper, heights between 2 1/2" and 3". Fontmaure, France, legal surface finds. All in excellent condition with nice "ground" patina. Three masterfully worked multi-tools on lovely examples of Fontmaure jasper. Each tool functions like a Swiss army knife of its time with different burins, notches and scrapers perfectly conceived and executed by the tool makers...

A set of 4 Neanderthal multi-tools. Jasper, heights between 2 5/8" and 3 5/8". Fontmaure, France, legal surface finds. Excellent condition. Three of these lithics are multi-tools on Levallois flakes. The fourth, which is second from the right, is a partially worked biface (ie flaked on one face more or less entirely, and partial flaking on the reverse face). This may have been a core tablet that was reworked into a cleaver with a burin like extension. All four have fine patinas...

A group of three Neanderthal Multi-tools. The lithic in the center is from Upper Normandy in France, near Beauzeville (along the Seine) and is a legal surface find. The other two are from Marbach, Germany, also legal surface finds. All three are in excellent condition, the French lithic is flint, the German lithics are chert. Heights are all 3". Variegated to glossy ground patinas. All three of these tools exhibit a fine technical realization of complex multi-tool functionality...

Abbevillian biface from Fontmaure, France. Moss green jasper, height 4". In excellent condition, legal surface find with fine, glossy ground patina. This is an unusual lithic from Fontmaure, which appears to be entirely hard hammer percussion. Very sculptural and boldly flaked. The entire edge has been worked to some degree. Indentification is uncertain, my tendency is very early Neanderthal, though it may be Homo Erectus...

A group of 4 Neanderthal backed blades. Three are jasper, one is flint (blade with white patina). Heights between 2 3/4" and 2 7/8". All legal site finds, Marbach, Germany. A few minor chips on the blades to the left and right. Blades in the center are in excellent, undamaged condition. Backed blades refer to blades (the business edge of a "blade" being less rough than scrapers) that have a wider opposing edge to the blade, thus allowing for a stronger and more stable grip...
