Legal surface finds, heights between 2" and 2 1/2". Very sculptural group on some beautiful examples of Fontmaure jasper. A little bit of everything here- scraper edges, burins, notches. In the photo the 2nd, 3rd and 5th from the left are all flakes tools, the 1st and 4th from the left are partial bifacially worked tools...
Attention wine lovers: this Victorian etched crystal decanter is classic. It is etched with a lovely classic star and key pattern, while the tall neck has 3 rows of cut hollows; on a molded foot ring with a large cut stopper; unmarked but probably old Baccarat. Quart size. Condition: excellent; one edge of the faceted stopper has a small chip. Measurement: 12" high (with stopper) x 6 " diam.

Neanderthal burin or point from the Nordlinger Ries, Germany. Jasper, height 2 1/4". Legal excavation find in excellent condition. Soft, matte ground patina. Very well sculpted lithic. Although there is a slight concave scraper or shaft straightener on one edge, this lithic was essentially a single function burin or point. Dates to 100,000-80,000 BCE.

Flake tools are tools made on flakes struck off a pebble and then further refined into the desired tool. In the case of these 4 tools a number of various working edges were made on each tool. Approximately dating to 50,000 BCE.
Lovely Neanderthal scraper on a flake from the Grand Pressigny region, France. Flint, height 2 7/8". Missing two minor chips, otherwise in excellent condition with a lovely, glossy ground patina. Legal surface find. Midway along the lithic through the distal end is entirely retouched as a long rounded end scraper. Very small (but sharp!) notch just to the side of the proximal end. Dates to 80,000-50,000 BCE.

A group of four Native American paleolithic stone tools on flakes from the Suwanee River basin, northern Florida. Chert, in excellent condition, with varying river patinas. Ex. collection Michael Cottingham. Heights between 2" and 2 3/4". The larger white blade is a convergent scraper. The other three are fabulous examples of tool making- each with multiple scrapers, one with a notch, on beautifully executed, wafer thin flakes. Date to approx. 8000 BCE.
