Fine and ergonomically very well designed Neanderthal proto axe on a flake from Reculver, Kent, England. Legal surface find. Height 2 7/8". Lovely, soft ocean patina. excellent condition. The chip evident is the top right of the left hand view is either a very early chip or was part of the original design of the lithic. It has a nice series of percussion ripples indicating a very sharp and directed blow. Large area of cortex remaining. Dates to approximately 120,000-80,000 BCE.
