A group of 5 German Neolithic blades. I purchased these as part of an old German collection. No further information on them other than that they were found at a site on the Kleiner Ploner See (Little Ploner Lake) in Schleswig-Holstein, Germany. Flint, heights between 2 3/8" and 3 7/8". One minor chip on the 2nd blade from the right in the photo, otherwise intact. Lovely gem-like patina on beautifully colored flint. These are Neolithic blades.

A motorcycle & sidecar tintype circa 1905 with a historic view. This scarce, very early photograph is on a late tintype (photo on treated metal blank) and this 2-3/8 x 1-5/8" (view area) image consists of a young motorcycle rider astride the bike with a rather concerned-looking grandma in the sidecar. Three other ladies stand behind her, and there is an Edmonson's Red Seal Toffee pail in the middle of the road (road hazards were a little different in those days...)...

2 eccentric Neanderthal scrapers. Jasper, height: both at 3". From Fontmaure, France, purchased from an older Dutch collection. The lithic on the left has what may be a chip missing at the top left in the photo. This is an old chip, well patinated. By it's form I do not think it was intentional to the piece and may be use-damage. The right side shows signs of use and was summarily knapped, hence it may have been made "in the field" for some specific function. The lithic on the right is a ve...

Heavy Neanderthal straight scraper on a flake. Jasper, from Fontmaure, France. Height 3 1/4". While the larger flaking on the two faces and the more refined flaking on the scraper edge are all quite clearly defined, the tool maker left the back edge only partially worked, apparently to take advantage of the natural ergonomics of the stone, which are quite good. Ergonomics on the proximal end are also quite well conceived. Dates to 80,000-50,000 BCE.
