Very interesting Neanderthal discoid scraper on a core tablet. Flint, height 3 3/16". Excellent condition, dry ground patina from the Sud Touraine region, France. Legal surface find. This multi-edged scraper was flaked on a core tablet with three very clear flakes removed on the top side, resulting in an unusually symmetrical piece. Large Ertebolle-Ellerbek ("Kitchen Midden") culture multi-tool on a flake from Denmark. Neolithic period flint, height 5", dates to 5300-3900 BCE. Auction purchase, excellent condition. Lovely, thin and quite large flake tool. Probably a left hander. One side is an extended blade the length of the entire lithic. On the other is a partial concave scraper reverse flaked up to the distal end, which also serves as an ergonomic booster.

Interesting bifacial blade on quartzite from the Suwannee River/Withlacoochee River basin area of northern Florida. Intact and in excellent condition. Height 3 3/8". Auction purchase, ex. Cottingham collection, Texas. The color variation is indigenous to the stone and is not evidence of heat treatment. Though there is a soft, high point semi glossy patina which indicates age, the blade is still quite sharp and does not exhibit much signs of use. Possibly a ritual object...

This lithic has been retouched around the entirety of the perimeter, and there is a broader reverse notch or shaft straightener above the obvious deep notch. Dates to 10,000-8,000 BCE.

Neanderthal dihedral burin on what was originally a flake with one face entirely cortex. Jasper, height 2 1/2". Excellent condition with glossy ground patina. Legal excavation find from the Nordlinger Ries, Germany. This was expertly made with two masterful burin blows. Originally on a flake, at some later point retouches were added to the flake side, inproving the ergonomics dramatically. Nice variation in the patina in this area of the lithic. Dates to 100,000-80,000 BCE.

Large Neanderthal scraper on a flake. Chert, height 3 1/8". Legal excavation find from the Nordlinger Ries. Matte ground patina, missing a few very minor chips, otherwise in excellent condition. Though this lithic is made on what appears to be a large flake, there is evidence of a secondary level of work on the flake side. Also what looks like interesting reworking on the other face (especially a later addition which greatly increases ergonomic capacities)...

Large Neanderthal scraper on a flake from Fontmaure, France. Jasper, height 4 3/4" Legal surface find in excellent condition with soft ground patina. I've always been impressed with the strength and accuracy needed to have detached this large flake in a single blow. Backed with a large area of cortex, the flaked edge exhibits both a convex scraper and a broad concave scraper or shaft straightener. While minimal, the ergonomic touches are masterful. Dates to 80,000-50,000 BCE.

Nice and very solid cleaver with good ergonomics and a very well flaked and defined, almost denticulate, cleaver edge. The ergonomics allow for use as a cleaver on the long side or the distal end. The reglued piece is a small area of cortex about midway up one face. Dates to 80,000-50,000 BCE.
