Wood board used by a "nushi", a lacquer-ware artisan in charge of lacquering urushi. It has natural dripping and dried glue(natural) while lacquering. Both sides are beautiful. In good condition. The first half of the 20th century. 9.5cm x 91cm x 0.9cm

Condition: Very good with inky area at upper right corner and one dot in left sky.

An antique Japanese Todana Tansu made of Keyaki (Zelkova) and Sugi (Cryptomeria) woods. Original iron hardware including the Warabite handles. Eight drawers and a pair of sliding doors allows for spacious storage. Original used in Japan as a family multi-purpose storage chest, it would function well as a buffet or sideboard chest.

Age: Showa Era (1930's).

Kono Bairei seal at lower left. Bairei died in 1895, which, curiously, was before Matsumoto was in business. Matsumoto has also issued this print with a proper Koson seal. Please see an example in our last photo.
