A Chinese duan inkstone housed in a fitted carved box, most probably for a scholar. The box is carved with birds on flowering branches. The box sits on four corner mounts. The stone is carved with a poem. I believe that the box is zitan. (Note: Some of the pictures have been lightened to show the detail.)

A pair of Chinese famille verte enameled porcelain boxes formed as recumbent quails. Realistically modelled, the feathers under green, aubergine and yellow glazes, the interiors glazed turquoise. The underside of the boxes molded with a pair of tucked-in legs, left unglazed. Resting on carved fitted wooden stands.

A pair of Chinese famille rose chargers each painted with the same scene of two long tailed pheasants perched in flowering boughs amongst blue pierced rocks, within a pierced enamelled & gilt spearhead border on a white ground. The backs of each glazed white with no marks.

Nostalgic glass vanity jar with enameled sterling silver cover. Made in London in 1934. Oval jar with straight and fluted sides. Cover has motoring scene: A Victorian lady and two gentlemen tootle along in a turn-of-the-century automobile. A sweet look back. Hallmark includes George V’s silver jubilee mark. Indistinct maker’s mark – possibly Thomas Dalton Pannett & Son, Ltd. Fine condition with strong color.

Japanese 20th century carved and painted wooden rat by KATO TOMOHIKO (1938-). KATO TOMOHIKO is a NITTEN artist. Signed TOMOHIKO. Comes with TOMOBAKO, original wooden artist signed storage box. The rat measures 10" long, 3 1/4" tall and 3" wide.
This silver overlay vase was produced in Germany by Friedrich Spar & Company around 1930. Except for a number 21 in red it is not signed but we are certain of its origin. The vase measures 7 inches in diameter. The art deco design is Asian inspired with pink flowers and branches spreading around the porcelain. The ground color is medium blue which contrasts so beautifully with the pink blossoms. The silver work is elaborate.

The rarer Katsinas of the some of the Rio Grande Pueblos are stylistically similar to Hopi figures, though often made of pine wood. Hopi Katsinas are made of cottonwood and more simply painted. This doll has great provenance: Dorothy Louise Luhrs, PhD. She taught at UNM School of Field Research. She was born in 1910 and she died in 1972. This doll was purchased from her estate and sold by Case Auctions, Memphis, Tennessee.
