This set of 8 porcelain plates was produced in England by Royal Doulton around 1930. They are signed by the artist, N. L. Woodings. They measure 10 ½ inches in diameter. The center of each plate has lovely hand painted roses in a variety of colors. No two plates are alike. The elegant cobalt blue borders are accented with ornate, raised gilding. What at first sight might look as a triangular vase is in fact a holder for the paper coffee filters invented in 1908 by Melitta Bentz and was produced by Goebel, Germany, c 1920.
