A green glazed hand thrown pottery vase signed on the bottom, “W N/OWEN” (Walter Nelson Owen 1895- 1981) with the original retail paper label reading, “Hand Made For/PETER MURPHEY/HWY. 191 . P. O. I am a fine art dealer so pottery, china and ceramics are not my specialty, but Wade of California it seems was a mid century operation in Southern California---a part of the rich tradition of California pottery. These "Liberty Blue" cup and saucer sets are 2 5/8". They have a blue and white floral rim . The scene in the saucer is that of the Old North Church. The scene on the cup is that of the Paul Revere riding through town. They are in excellent condition.

A finely sculpted bust of a young man with exceptional patina of finely blended earth and bronze pigments. Physical condition is superb, but a small amount of finish has worn around the left eye and on the top of the head exposing a green substrate, yet harmonious with the earthen finish. Signed on the back of the neck. We have been unable to decipher the signature; yet the work speaks well for the unidentified artist. Dimension: 13" h

Oversize salt fired bowl by Cynthia Bringle (legendary American studio potter, born 1939), circa 1970-1980, fresh from a Charlotte NC estate. In excellent original condition. Signed with full incised signature "Cynthia Bringle". Almost 16" across, 9" high. Bringle's works are in the collections of the High Museum of Art, the Mint Museum of Art, the Brooks Memorial Art Gallery, the Craft and Folk Museum in Los Angeles...

These are the small rose "desert rose" salt and pepper shakers with English plugs.

There are no chips, no cracks, and no repairs to these items. They are in excellent condition. These were made after 1984.

I visited the Corcoran Gallery of Art in Washington DC a little more than a year ago and saw some really creative ceramics with leather incorporated into the composition among related, sculptural works. It did make a spontaneous and lasting impression that led me to recognize and purchase a wonderful and unusual work by the same hand found in an antiques and collectibles market.

A work of studio pottery, found in Southern California, the color a rich earthy brown, the vessel pierced intentionally by the artist to create naturalistic openings, similar to the distinctive style of Peter Voulkos (1924-2002). The piece measures 7 1/2" high by 5" diameter. The piece is signed on the bottom "Balvin 79". Surprisingly I do not see a studio potter by this name, but the artist was obviously talented and also familiar with Voulkos' acclaimed work.

I am not a specialist in pottery and ceramics but am offering here a drinking mug, circa mid century, by noted California pottery master SASCHA BRASTOFF (1918-1993). This mug measures 5" high and about 4 1/2" from handle edge to opposite edge of the mug. It is signed "SaschaB" at the top edge...
