DESCRIPTION: A very good woven oak-splint basket in lobed buttocks form, used as a field gathering basket or a market basket for goods. This large early 1900’s Pennsylvania basket has a sturdy bentwood handle with double bentwood-wrapped rims; old varnish finish. Very good condition with minor usage wear. Wonderful folk art box of a pyramid that opens to reveal sections to hold cigarettes and matches. Found in Freeport, Maine, this is a PAIR of circa 1870 American drawings, (possibly a bit earlier), the first of General George Washington on a prancing horse, the second of a cut glass compote overflowing with fruit. Each measures 11 3/4" by 8 3/4" inside the mats, 16" by 12" overall, one of the mats deep maroon, the other, black. They are unframed, taped on the reverse to the mats at the edges...

Soft wood (probably pine) carved shore bird decoy, likely 19th century, with authentic wear including missing paint, pellet holes, and broken off beak. The work measures approximately 9 1/2" by 6" extreme dimensions, not including the wood base. The eyes appear to be metallic tacks. I am not a decoy specialist but wonder if this might be by any recognized carver. In any event, the piece is a great example of folk art Americana.

Measuring just 4.25 inches long when assembled, this small souvenir item commemorates the Ausable Chasm in the Adirondack Mountains in New York State. A tiny leather case embossed with the chasm name and its location houses a small clothing brush constructed of natural bristles with silver-plated grip. Unmarked--in very fine condition! A Large Original Sign for "Mudjekeewis A Camp for Girls" in Lovell, Maine that operated from 1919-1969. Measures about 37 1/4" by 31 1/4" by 1 3/4" and weighs about thirty pounds. Two sided, both shown. There is a vintage photo of this sign in place on the website of the Lovell Maine Historical Society. Great memorabilia and folk art.

A hand-carved wood statuette of a man, approximately 11" high, 3" wide, the wood possible oak but not definitively determined. The creator did not sign the piece. Age is also unknown though mid 20th century is likely. Could be American or maybe European.

Decoy of a Canada Goose, dimensions roughly 28" by 9" by 8", weight 8 1/2 pounds, unsigned. I am not able to attribute this to any particular carver. As an art dealer I cannot claim to be a specialist in duck and goose decoys, but I think this has some age, circa mid 20th century. There is convincing wear, and a deep split in the wood along the left side, as if from the wood drying over time. A fine piece of folk art for the home. Came from a high end Beverly Hills estate.

Hewn from one piece of wood, our porcine friend leisurely resided for many years on the enclosed back porch of historic Coolmore Plantation, Taroboro, NC (see last photo of home). In very good condition, she does have some age cracks, but is very solid. Measures 21 inches long x 13" high x 12" and weights 21 lbs. Age unknown so we are listing as vintage.

Four(4) Ivory Napkin Rings, two(2) different sizes, 1 3/8" high and 1 3/4" diameter-larger ones, 1 1/8" high and 1 5/8" diameter-smaller ones. They are in good colors and condition, no damages.

A unique piece, made of a tropical wood, 12 1/4" by 6" by 3 1/4", the box hinged, opening from the top, revealing scooped-out recesses when opened. A bird incised with a burning tool and the date 1964 also so incised appear on the front portion that opens out. On the sides, likewise, a design is burned into the wood. This appears to me to be of Caribbean (Haitian?), Mexican/Central American or South American origin, though I suppose it could be African (I think, much less likely)...

This could be your lucky day, here is a four leaf clover needle case probably made by the Woodland Indians in the North East. It opens like a book and has three round pieces wool of white wool with green floss edging. The clover is made with green floss. the sewing needle case is hinged with a green ribbon tied in a bow and the latch is also green ribbon that ties to keep it closed. It is in excellent condition. It is 2 1/2" in diameter. Circa late 1800's.
