Being offered is a superb circa 1945 sterling silver pitcher by William Spratling, of Taxco, Mexico; handwrought bulbous form originally, specifically designed as a sangria pitcher with three applied floral motifs on the body; flared neck; ribbon handle with ruffle decoration, but of course pitcher can be used for water, iced tea etc. Dimensions: 7 1/2 inches tall by 7 inches diameter. No monogram. Marked as illustrated in photo. In excellent condition. Weight is a hefty 38 ozs.

Measuring 5 1/4" across & weighing 156 grams this 940 sterling silver dish was designed by Taxco, Mexico designer Hector Aguilar. The dish is centered with a 1951 coin with a HIDALGO profile. The reverse side of the coin features an eagle fighting a serpent. This candy dish is pictured on p. 67 of SILVER MASTERS OF MEXICO by Penny Morrill. HA, 940, TAXCO, & TALLER BORDA and eagle 9 hallmarks are found on the underside rim of the dish.

In 1965 "THE WORLD OF SPRATLING" museum exhibit touring the U.S. included this design in their collection. Rosewood and sterling silver are used in this ovoid piece which stands 1 3/4" high & 4 3/4" long. The tray is in beautiful condition. It is pictured on Phyllis Goddards spratlingsilver.com and in MEXICAN Silver by Penny Morrill and Carole Berk. Spratling 1950's hallmarks are on the underside.
