Very rare complete jacket back panel from the remote Miao Jiupang group from Jiahe County, Guizhou province (see last enlargement), with purple embroidered pattern between the spaces in the tin decoration. This style of decoration is unique to this group and very difficult to make, as every tiny bit of tin has to be individually cut and crimped. Recently acquired from a private Hong Kong collector, these are the first examples I have send of these I have seen in the past 10 years...

20 grams white to light soft sage with touches of light tan yellowish russet on some edges.

Chinese silk rank badge made with bright, beautiful silk threads in blues, purples, greens, and pinks. Lotuses and peonies peek in through the sides of the badge, over a background of geometric patterns in blue silk; Green, blue, purple, and white lights are along the bottom, meeting with blue waves or clouds and auspicious elements in bright pinks and purples; Cherry blossoms, bamboo leaves, and blue geometric patterns outline the badge. Made from burl wood, this elegant Chinese brush pot stands almost a foot (12 inches) tall and 6 inches in diameter. The walls are thick with a repeated rib design and the interior lip has a deep bevel...

Vase or jar with globular body, standing on a short foot and with everting rim. Moon jar. Underglaze blue decoration of carp swimming in water. Signed and sealed. Bottom marked as well. Korea, late 19th or early 20th century.

Figure of an eight-armed octopus, lying down in an almost elegant pose. Stoneware with gradient brown-beige color glaze. Signed on the back Hakushi or Hiroshi. Japan, later part of Showa era.

Such figures (twins beaded) were reserved for high status "royal" tribal leaders for protection. Heavily decorated with beads, bone and cowrie shells, this pair is 80 years old and have some kind of marking on the bottom. sourced out of Fumbane (foumban), approximately 12 inches high

Snake carved out of a natural piece of twisted keyaki (paulownia) wood, stained dark brown. Japan, Showa era, perhaps a bit earlier.

This fan was made for export during the 1930's. Silk fabric with hand painted "city life" scene and support struts of black lacquer with ornate painted decoration.

Japanese woodblock print of a young, beautiful robed woman kicking off her geta (traditional sandals) and holding a parasol outwards. Soft, rosy colors have been used which are calming to the eyes. Vintage Mashiko-yaki Oozara (large plates) for serving or for dinner plates. Diameter: 10.875" (25.5cm) x Height: 1.5" (3.75cm.) Five different hand-brush-drawn designs on seven plates featuring, flowers, fish, bamboo, and trees (see all enlargements.) The designs were quite modern interpretations of traditional designs when they were contemporary. They are very sturdy in form and design...

This is a rustic brushpot a farmer in rural Hubei carved this out of a tree trunk. He spotted the branch at the right and decided not to trim it Hence this pot has a handle. Its skin is old and patinated. It is a charming pot. It dates from the 19th century.

Vintage Japanese cylindrical form stoneware lidded mizusashi (water vessel for the tea ceremony) with horizontal ribs covered in a light creamy tan colored glaze with dripped patterning that stops short of the flat foot and recessed base. The interior and underside of the lid are coated in a glossy brown glaze. 20th century. Stands about 6 5/8" high. Very good overall condition with no chips, cracks, or repairs. This piece is from a Tucson, AZ estate.

Mimura Kazuhiro(b.1931) is a nerikomi (multi-colored marbled ware) specialist who has had a very successful career exhibiting throughout Japan and at juried exhibitions as well, especially at the prestigious yearly Japan Traditional Arts and Crafts Exhibition. This museum quality work dates to the late 70`s and is remarkable for the nerikomi technique on such a large form; in perfect condition at 45.7cm x 45.7cm x 7 cm. Stamped on bottom.
