Head of funerary statue or effigy, of minimalist shape. Weathered wood, with shell eyes. Indonesia, South Sulawesi, Toraja Peoples. Height: 12" (30 cm). The head is nicely mounted on a custom metal stand. Very good condition. NOTE 1: The Toraja have this particularly interesting tradition of carving in wood funerary images of the deceased. These figures are kept in galleries or balconies beside the coffins in which high-ranking or noble or wealthy people are buried...

Splendid Japanese incense container, also known as kogo, used for tea ceremony. The persimmon has a small lady bug sitting near the head of the persimmon. The incense container contains an inscription reading: Rakushisha, which is a small hut in the Sagano district of Kyoto. The hut was the summer home of Matsuo Basho's disciple, Mukai Kyorai. The hut was given the name when a hurricane blew all the persimmons off the trees planted in the estate...

A large underglaze blue decorated vase, very finely painted in 18th Century style with bands of plantain leaves, key fret and ruyi above the Bajixiang (eight Buddhist emblems) amongst cloud scrolls. On the base is the six character seal mark of the Qianlong emperor (1736-1795) but this item was made later, in the 20th Century, probably during the Republic period (1911-1949)...

They symbolize the effects of epileptic crisis, which are supposed to be a manifestation of the spirits...

A large shinto shrine constructed in the style based on the Grand Shrine of Ise. This type of construction for small shrines is often used by the local residents in Ise. The shrine contains fine details in the woodwork and brass fittings fit for a deity. Age: 20th century. Size: height 23.75" width 19" length 36"

Wooden five storied pagoda done in the style just as the actual structures appear including the wooden joints and key architectural elements that are conjoined together to create the structure. Fine worksmanship is done with the balustrades, roof, and the are under the roof known as the mune in Japanese. Age: 20th century Size: height 84" width 16" length 16.25"

A Zohiko covered rice bowl. Colorful leaf decoration sparsely applied on black ground with almost iridescent effect with gold and silver maki-e and red details. Zohiko mark in gold lacquer inside the bowl's foot rim. 20th century. Bowl diameter 5 1/16 inches (12.86 cm). The bowl has two small losses to the lacquer along the foot and one small loss to the rim. The cover is in good condition. The lacquer otherwise being in good condition with no distress or wear of note...

A large Buddhist scroll painting of the Amitabha triad where Amitabha is attended by Avalokitesvara and Mahasthamaprapta. The bodhisattvas are adorned with elaborate accessories often seen in images of bodhisattvas. The Buddha, is wearing a red garment painted with medallion like patterns to make the cloth appear like brocades. Age: 20th century. Size: height 111.5" width 54.5"

A fairly large Korean style Buddhist painting portraying the image of the Water Moon Avalokitesvara or Suwol Gwaneum in Korean. The Avalokitesvara is dressed in vestments and accessories common to the figure of a Bodhisattva and has the water vessel which offers blessings to all sentient beings. The bodhisattva is attended by a boy figure known as shan nanzi who often seen in pictorial and textual depictions in East Asian Buddhism. Age: 20th century. Size: height 105.5" width 53"

Chinese enameled vermeil silver nine dragon wall. Copying the 9 dragon tiled porcelain wall found in Beijing. Mounted to fitted wooden base with Chinese calligraphy to front. Early 20th century. Measures 4-1/4" height x 9-1/4" width.

A young woman dressed in a white robe with red hakama pants is holding a folding fan and is posed to do a dance. This dress is often known as Shirabyoshi where these were sacred dances offered to the gods. The shirabyoshi figure evokes the Heian and Kamakura aesthetic and the legends contemporary to the era that portray the Shirabyoshi. Work is signed and sealed by an artist named Nanko. Age: Early 20th century. Size: height 74.25" width 22.5

China, 20th century, jade seal surmounted by a seated lion, stone of dark green color, uncarved. Size: Height of this fine carving is 4 1/2 inches, in very good condition.

Huanghuali altar table decorated with carved decorations. The altar table has a square maize design repeated around the base of the table. The legs are decorated with carved panels of dragons climbing through clouds. The Huanghuali table top is very beautiful with strong grain patterns. Late Republic period. The size measures 33.5" tall 64" long 16" deep.

Republic period, circa 1950, carved jade miniature of a sage pinching it's ear lobe. The jade stone is shaped like a pebble. There are two medallions on the top of the shoulders of the stone. It measures 1.5" by 1.5" by .6".
