This is an extra large komebukuro ( rice bag ) made of hand-spun cotton and dyed with natural indigo and vegetable brown color. Komebukuro was used when people exchange rice as gift or donated it to a shrine or a temple. It is made of many pieces of cotton cloth which are recycled from old kimono, furoshiki, futon cover and so on as cotton was precious in old days. Komebukuro had been used till 1920s and 30s. A fine wooden container with a bottle shape, made in a single piece of wood, except the tap . This kind of bottle could be used for different purposes, alcool, oil, milk… ?) . This bottle has been collected from mountain tribes, probably Tamanf people from Langtang area. These containers are no more used , obvious signs of age, at least around 50 years. Height 12 2/3 inches (32 cm) ,max diameter 5 ½ inches (14 cm), very good condition no crack , hard to get this quality nowadays.

This is an old man's silk Jyuban, an undergarment worn under a kimono, a luxury from the past. Strange, but you will find quite a work of art in the undergarment, much more than finding them on the outer kimonos. The carps are tie-dyed. Other than a faint stain right above the right side carp, it is in excellent condition. This stain wil not show up unless you look at it under the sun. The measurements are 52" in width and 53" in length. No lining.
