Among the Naga, the libation is a religious ritual to offer a drink (milk, alcohol, ...) to a deity. The Naga tribes are located in East India, district of Aranuchal Praddesh, these areas have remained in a great isolation until at the end of the 20 th century These horns come from large wild bovids "Bos frontalis" locally called "gayal or even "mithan"...

Nice flat and thin primitive mask with a white painted trisul on the front. Hard black patina, the eyes and mouth are under-ligned with an old white paint. Hairs are fixed with glue. Note a laocal repair with iron wire mostly visible from the back side. Hard wood H 23 cm wide 16.5 cm

This mask expresses the harshness of the uncomfortable life in isolated districts. Wood is extremely hard probably from teak tree showing an amber to reddish color. The eyes, however, have been the subject of special work, the toothless mouth is opened to show a the tip of the tongue. This mask comes of the district of Humla H24 cm x 17 cm

Statue of a protecting deity or ancestor, standing on slightly bent legs, its hands in praying posture, its face expressing agressiveness. Patinated and eroded wood. Nepal, early 20th century. Height: 15" (38 cm). The statue is mounted on a custom metal stand.
Gilt bronze figure of Kubera (Kambala) also known as Dhanapati "Lord of Riches", seated on mythical beast with mongoose in one hand, his elaborate crown and round belly suggest great wealth, Nepalese, early/mid 20th century.
