Beautiful and old butter rod guide, this long-handled model is characteristic of the Tamang ethnic group and of the Rameschap places. The surface is finely and richly carveded with symmetrical patterns inspired by basket weaving. The 2 medallions located at the top certainly bore the faces of a protective ancestor. There are obvious signs of use at the level of the large orifice which serves as a guide for the churning stick (local name is "mandani")...

This lady's shawl from the Hazara region in Pakistan measures 105 x 224 cm including the fringes. The geometric patterns are hand-embroidered in straight stitching in vivid pink floss-silk with touches of light pink, outlined in yellow double running stitch on a black wool ground. The shawl is dated to the late 20th century and is in perfect condition.

This is the top part of a longuer pole fixed on bridge for protection of travellers. A very typical figure from the remote Karnali area showing a so called "Protector" coated with white mineral pigment (Seto mato) mostly on the front side. The figure is in the standing position and was obviously kept inside. This kind of figures are associated with animist cult of protection of house or village.
